Netflix’s upcoming film 'Mantis' has unveiled a behind-the-scenes video showcasing the intense action sequences of its rising killers.
'Mantis' tells the story of an A-list assassin, “Mantis,” who returns from a long break to a world where all rules in the hitman industry have been broken. He faces off against his trainee and rival, Jae I, as well as a retired legendary killer, Dok Go, in a fierce battle for the top spot.
The released footage captures the heart-pounding action of the film’s rising killers. Opening with Han Ul’s (Im Si Wan (Siwan)) line, “Why are you so late? We’ve been waiting for you,” the video shows the dedication of Im Si Wan, Park Gyu Young, and Jo Woo Jin as they perfected their stunts. From hand-to-hand combat to wire action and signature weapon battles, the sequences combine thrilling action with the complex emotions of the characters, amplifying the film’s immersive experience.
Each character’s signature weapon highlights their unique fighting style: Han Ul’s dual sickles, Jae I’s versatile sword designed for unrestricted movement, and Dok Go’s tonfa for both offense and defense. These weapons not only showcase the characters’ traits but also heighten anticipation for the film’s action scenes.
For Im Si Wan, Mantis marked his first foray into a full-fledged action film. He shared, “Whenever we had a chance, we trained together, rehearsed movements, and synchronized our action sequences. The set constantly smelled of pain-relief patches!” Park Gyu Young added, “I felt that emotions were expressed more through action than dialogue. Thanks to the fight choreographer’s perfect guidance, we trained in detail at the action school.”
Jo Woo Jin praised the collaboration with martial arts director Ryu Seong Chul, saying, “The fight sequences were designed to match our characters, and through collaboration, we built our characters together. By embodying different action styles with the character’s traits, the sequences become even more engaging.”
Netflix’s action-packed film 'Mantis' will premiere on September 26.
