Netflix’s upcoming film 'Good News,' directed by Byun Sung Hyun, held its world premiere at the '50th Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF)' on September 5 (local time). The screening took place at the Princess of Wales Theatre as part of the festival’s Special Presentations section.
Director Byun was joined on the red carpet by lead actors Sul Kyung Gu, Hong Kyung, and Sho Kasamatsu. “This is the first time we are presenting the film to an audience,” Byun remarked. “I feel nervous and excited, but I hope viewers enjoy the fun ride.”
During the premiere event, the director and cast shared insights about the film. Byun explained, “I wanted to find fresh ways to tell the story effectively and make it stand out.”
Veteran actor Sul Kyung Gu praised the collaboration, saying, “Working with Director Byun always challenges me in new ways. I am deeply grateful for the audience’s enthusiastic response throughout the screening.”

Actor Hong Kyung reflected on the experience: “It was an honor to share the screen with legendary seniors like Sul Kyung Gu and Ryoo Seung Bum. This film holds special meaning for me.”
Set in the 1970s, 'Good News' follows a group of unlikely allies plotting a daring and unconventional mission to land a hijacked airplane at all costs. Sul Kyung Gu plays the mysterious fixer known only as Amuge, Hong Kyung takes on the role of elite Air Force lieutenant Seo Go Myung, and Sho Kasamatsu portrays Denji, the leader of a communist militant group.
A production representative described the film as “a unique blend of stylish direction, sharp satire, and a dynamic ensemble of seasoned and fresh talent,” promising audiences “a refreshing cinematic experience.”
'Good News' will be released globally on Netflix on October 17.
