Girl band QWER has continued selling their official merchandise, including a lightstick, despite controversy over its similarity to the lightstick used by boy group The Boyz.
On September 29 KST, QWER posted a notice regarding the collection of their merchandise, which included details about the lightstick that sparked the recent debate.

The notice stated, “This product does not include batteries. Each purchase comes with one AAA battery pack (3 batteries per pack). The pickup location and booth hours are also provided.”
The controversy began after QWER revealed the official lightstick for their first world tour 'Location' in Seoul. Fans pointed out that it closely resembled the megaphone-style lightstick used by The Boyz since 2021.
In response, The Boyz’s agency, One Hundred, said, “After acknowledging the issue, we engaged in discussions with QWER’s side requesting design changes, but a final resolution was not reached. We plan to take legal steps to prevent recurrence.”
QWER’s agencies, 3Y Corporation and Prism Filter, immediately countered, stating, “We deeply regret that the opposing side suddenly announced legal action while we were attempting amicable discussions. Our legal team, including lawyers and patent attorneys, has reviewed the lightstick multiple times and confirmed there are no copyright violations or other issues.”
To mediate the dispute, the Korea Entertainment Producers Association (KEPA) has stepped in. They said, “We will act neutrally to facilitate adjustment and mediation between both parties and establish effective preventive measures. This includes setting up an official dispute resolution platform, issuing joint statements, and launching industry campaigns.”
QWER is a four-member girl band that debuted in October 2023 through the “Favorite Kids Project,” produced by YouTuber Kim Gyeran.
The Boyz is a ten-member boy group that debuted in December 2017 under One Hundred label.
