Actor Choi Gwi Hwa delivered a powerful finale as the ambitious Prince Jesan in the last episode of tvN’s weekend drama ‘Bon Appétit, Your Majesty’.
In episode 12, which aired on September 28th KST, Prince Jesan (played by Choi Gwi Hwa) met his end at the blade of his nephew Lee Heon (Lee Chae Min). Upon Lee Heon’s return to the palace, Jesan declared, “I restored everything through a coup. You should never have been king. I should have ascended the throne from the beginning,” finally revealing his hidden ambition.
Lee Heon confronted him, saying, “So that’s what it was? Uncle, you wanted to be king,” before taking up his sword for Jinmyeong Daegun. Jesan ambushed Lee Heon during his exile, but Lee Heon fought back. In a climactic duel, Jesan fell, still consumed by his obsession: “I was meant to be the king of Joseon.”
Meanwhile, in a shocking twist, Yeon Ji Young (played by Im YoonA) was stabbed in Lee Heon’s place, leading her to time-skip into the future. The drama concluded with a reunion kiss between Lee Heon and Ji Young, sealing its happy ending.

Viewers quickly filled online communities with praise: “Choi Gwi Hwa’s villainous acting was explosive,” “The finale was carried by Prince Jesan,” and “I cursed at him, but I was amazed too.” Some international fans even left Korean curse words such as “saekiyyaa!!!” and “shibal” in his social media comments, showing their immersion in the drama. Choi Gwi Hwa responded humorously, posting, “I must live long...foreign fans are even swearing at me? Hehehe.”
With this performance, Choi Gwi Hwa once again proved his remarkable range, leaving a lasting impression across genres, from his comedic turns in ‘Misaeng’ to the unhinged madness of his role in ‘Bon Appétit, Your Majesty’.
