Disney+'s ambitious original series 'Tempest,' produced with an estimated budget of around 70 billion KRW (approximately 50.4 million USD), has captured viewers' attention immediately upon its release, sparking widespread buzz.
Episodes 1 through 3 were released all at once on September 10, and the show has received high praise from audiences for its star-studded cast and strong direction.
Even before the premiere, 'Tempest' gained attention for casting Jun Ji Hyun as Moon Joo, a UN ambassador with a global reputation, and Kang Dong Won as San Ho, a mysterious special agent with an enigmatic identity. Adding to the allure, acclaimed actors including Park Hae Joon, Oh Jung Se, Lee Sang Hee, and Lee Mi Sook join the lineup, forming a solid ensemble.

The story begins with a shocking incident in which former presidential candidate Jun Ik (Park Hae Joon) is shot. Moon Joo (Jun Ji Hyun), an internationally recognized UN ambassador, sets out to uncover the truth by tracking down a mysterious man, San Ho (Kang Dong Won), who saved her at the scene.
Meanwhile, Jun Ik’s younger brother and prosecutor, Jun Sang (Oh Jung Se), is consumed by inferiority and jealousy toward his brother. Seeing an opportunity, he pursues his own presidential ambitions, surveils Moon Joo, and even resorts to extreme measures like kidnapping Moon Joo’s aide, Mi Ji (Lee Sang Hee).
Discovering suspicious traces left by Jun Ik, Moon Joo decides to personally enter the political arena to expose the hidden conspiracy. She meets Ok Seon, the chairman of Asum Shipping, who had groomed Jun Ik as a presidential candidate, and says, “I want to climb the remaining steps,” forming a partnership that rapidly shifts the political landscape.
Nicknamed “Joan of Arc,” Moon Joo quickly rises as a leading presidential contender with Ok Seon’s strategic backing. However, she faces assassination threats from unknown forces, and each time San Ho appears to protect her, a special bond develops between them.
The series’ elaborate action sequences, especially those featuring San Ho, have been a major draw. As a former special agent, his ability to neutralize threats in dangerous situations and his quick crisis responses provide spectacular visual thrills.
Protected by San Ho, Moon Joo delivers a powerful, charismatic speech at her campaign announcement, captivating the public and raising anticipation for her journey ahead.
Amid ongoing threats, San Ho proposes that Moon Joo hire him as her dedicated bodyguard. Even unsure whether he is a savior or a potential risk, she agrees, marking the start of their journey to uncover a massive secret. San Ho emphasizes his expertise, “In emergencies, you must follow my instructions immediately. At that moment, I’m the boss,” sparking curiosity about the story to come.
Viewers reacted enthusiastically immediately after release.
