Lee Chae Min shared his thoughts on the ending of 'Bon Appétit, Your Majesty,' and a possible season 2.
On September 30, Lee Chae Min held an interview at a café in Gangnam, Seoul, following the conclusion of the tvN weekend drama, which ended on September 28.
'Bon Appétit, Your Majesty' is a fantasy historical drama about a chef who time-slips to her peak moment in the past and encounters a tyrannical king with an absolute keen sense of taste. In the drama, Lee Chae Min played Lee Heon, a royal prince determined to uncover the truth behind his mother’s death.
Lee Chae Min shared, "Honestly, it still doesn’t feel real that it’s over, and I think the lingering emotions are still with me. When a project ends, I usually feel both regretful and relieved, but this time, since the drama did so well and received so much love, I feel proud. Many people come to mind whom I want to thank. Overall, I just feel very happy. The project feels like it has left something within me, and the people I worked with have become very precious. I think it’s a project that gave me so much in many ways."
'Bon Appétit, Your Majesty' concluded with a happy ending where Lee Heon returns to the present and reunites with Yeon Ji Young (played by YoonA). However, since the process of Lee Heon's return wasn't shown, some viewers criticized the ending as being too vague.
Regarding the conclusion, Lee Chae Min explained, "I realized there are many different perspectives from viewers. But as someone who acted in it, I truly thought it was beautiful. Since he reunited with Ji Young, I only saw it as something beautiful. Thanks to this, I think my own perspective broadened as well."
The actor also mentioned the possibility of a second season, saying, "I saw reactions like, ‘Will there be a season 2?’ and I thought, that means people really enjoyed it. I did get curious, like, ‘What would it be like if we did season 2?’ I even imagined something like ‘Lee Heon adjusting to modern life.’ But still, I think Lee Heon’s story is meant to end in the historical setting."
Meanwhile, according to Nielsen Korea, the finale of 'Bon Appétit, Your Majesty' recorded a nationwide average rating of 17.1% and a peak of 19.4%, breaking its own highest record and wrapping up on a strong note.
