Actors Kim Yo Han, Han Ji Hyun, and Yoo Seon Ho have been cast as the leads in the upcoming film 'Made in Itaewon.'
Kim Yo Han will play Park Ji Soo, a former boxing hopeful who loses his dream and drifts through life, marking a new transformation for the actor on screen. Balancing group activities and acting, Kim’s casting is expected to further establish his presence as a versatile actor.
Han Ji Hyun will take on the role of Kim Ji Won, a free-spirited yet emotionally scarred young adult. Known for her performances in both television and film, Han will explore the youth noir genre for the first time, delivering nuanced and delicate emotional acting.
Yoo Seon Ho, another lead, will portray Kwon Byul, a mischievous childhood friend who grew up with Ji Soo in Itaewon. Known for his versatility in acting, entertainment, and music, fans are eager to see the new dimensions he will bring to the film.
Supporting cast members include Koo Sung Hwan as Sang Man, a boxing coach under Ji Soo’s father who drifts into a dark path due to an uncertain future; Ki Hyun Woo as Hyun Sik, Ji Soo’s childhood friend and boxing rival; Oh Chae Young as Lee Woo Ri, a wealthy only daughter harboring suppressed desires; and Hyun Bong Sik as Jong Pil, Ji Soo’s school’s student supervisor and boxing club coach. Each actor is expected to add unique depth and color to the story.
'Made in Itaewon' is described as a coming-of-age noir about immature youth. It tells the poignant story of young people whose family, friendship, and love are all incomplete, forcing them to face the consequences of their own immaturity.
Set in Itaewon during the IMF crisis of 1998, the film portrays characters who, unable to be ordinary in a society that did not fully embrace diversity, collide in one space, weaving an intense narrative.
Monster Company, the production company, said, “Itaewon represents the youth of that era and is like a microcosm of Korean society. The fresh energy and era-sensitive sensibilities of Kim Yo Han, Han Ji Hyun, and Yoo Seon Ho will come together to create a powerful youth noir.”
Main investor and distributor Library Company added, “This project represents a new trend in Korean youth cinema. Casting these lead actors was the optimal choice to strongly convey the film’s message.”
'Made in Itaewon' is scheduled to begin filming on September 8, aiming for a release next year.
