Netflix has confirmed that the original film 'Mantis,' a spin-off of 'Kill Boksoon' starring Im Si Wan (Siwan), will premiere on September 26. Alongside the announcement, the streaming platform has released a striking teaser poster and trailer.
'Mantis' is an action-packed film that follows a top-tier assassin known as “Mantis” who returns from an extended hiatus to a world where all the rules of the hitman industry have crumbled. The story focuses on 'Mantis,' his trainee and rival Jaei, and the retired legendary killer Dokgo as they compete for the top position in the underworld.
The teaser poster immediately grabs attention with Im Si Wan’s character Hanul dressed in a vivid red outfit reminiscent of blood. Hanul is an A-list killer at the country’s largest assassination company, MK ENT, and is famously known as “Mantis.” Upon returning from his long break, he learns that the company’s CEO has died and the firm is on the verge of collapse. The poster’s shimmering, textured costume hints at Hanul’s unique personality, teasing the emergence of a one-of-a-kind character. True to his ominous nickname, which comes from the characters “death," “devil," and “ghost," Hanul wields a terrifying sickle-shaped weapon, promising stylish and intense action sequences that will captivate audiences.
The teaser trailer begins with the deep, commanding voice of MK ENT’s CEO Cha Min Kyu (Seol Kyung Gu) explaining the rules of the assassin industry, instantly drawing viewers into the film’s compelling world. From the naturally gifted A-list killer Hanul to his longtime friend and rival Jaei (Park Gyu Young) and retired legend Dokgo (Jo Woo Jin), the trio’s sharp confrontations over the top position in a collapsing industry set the stage for a gripping, edge-of-your-seat story.
The trailer also hints at the complex relationship between Hanul and Jaei. Jaei provocatively asks, “Now, am I not above you anymore?” to which Hanul responds sharply, “So you wanted to kill me?” This exchange highlights the intricate friendship and rivalry that drives the film’s tension and suspense.
With its stylish visuals, fierce action, and intricate character dynamics, 'Mantis' promises to be a thrilling addition to Netflix’s lineup this September.
