Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates has recently participated in a recording of tvN’s popular show 'You Quiz on the Block,' igniting a wave of criticism and conspiracy theories among some online users.
On August 20, the official 'You Quiz on the Block' account posted several photos along with the caption, “It’s not every day that a moment like this comes. Today with this person.”
The released photos show Bill Gates smiling and seemingly enjoying a conversation with hosts Yoo Jae Suk and Jo Se Ho, giving viewers a glimpse of a warm and friendly atmosphere on set.
Despite the cheerful images, some netizens reacted sharply. Comments such as “Did he come here just to sell vaccines?” and “Does Bill Gates’ presence mean mandatory vaccinations are coming?” circulated online. Others pushed back, asking, “Where does the idea that vaccines control your brain even come from?”
These reactions appear rooted in longstanding conspiracy theories linking Bill Gates to the COVID-19 pandemic. Back in 2020, as the virus spread globally, various online claims alleged that he deliberately spread the virus to reduce the population or planned to implant tracking devices through vaccines.
Bill Gates himself addressed these claims in a 2021 interview with a local media outlet, calling them “insane, malicious conspiracy theories” and expressing disbelief that people would actually believe such ideas.
Ranked 15th on Forbes’ list of the world’s richest people, Bill Gates founded the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation in 2000, focusing on global health and climate change. In 2010, he joined Warren Buffett in launching The Giving Pledge, committing to donate more than half of his wealth to charitable causes.
