A heartwarming first-love romance film is set to premiere on Netflix on August 29.
Set in 1998, 'Love Untangled' tells the story of 19-year-old Park Se Ri (played by Shin Eun Soo), who, while devising a plan to straighten her lifelong complex, her unruly curly hair, before the most important confession of her life, becomes entangled with transfer student Han Yoon Seok (played by Gong Myung).
The film is directed by Nam Goong Sun, who previously helmed two acclaimed films, ' Time to be Strong' and 'Ten Months.' 'Time to be Strong' won the grand prize at the Jeonju International Film Festival last year. Known for her delicate perspective and direction, director Nam Goong Sun is expected to bring warm and lovely emotions to this teenage love story.
On August 1, the film released a teaser trailer and poster.
The poster reveals Se Ri struggling to straighten her cotton-candy-like curls, and her voluminous locks are filled with paper cranes and colorful objects, amplifying the playful charm of a youthful romance. The tagline, "Just wait until I straighten this hair. I'm going to make my real confession!" brings to life Se Ri's spirit and stirs curiosity about whether she would succeed in making her love confession.
The trailer also opens up with Se Ri's narration: "My hair started to tangle, and so did my life." Moments of her confession, as complicated as her inherited curls, flash by quickly. Seri soon teams up with transfer student Yoon Seok and her friends to devise a grand plan to confess her feelings to Kim Hyun (played by Cha Woo Min), the school’s most popular boy, who stole her heart at first sight.
When she unexpectedly encounters Kim Hyun and he greets her, Se Ri freezes up. To win his heart, she goes all out using everything from a hairdryer to a plastic folder in an attempt to achieve the straight hair he likes. Meanwhile, Yoon Seok, who accidentally gets roped into Se Ri’s grand confession mission, sparks subtle chemistry with her, adding intrigue for viewers.
The trailer closes with the line, "The curly-haired 19-year-old Se Ri's heart-fluttering confession mission," heightening anticipation for this youthful romance. Director Nam Goong Sun described 'Love Untangled' as “a film about joyful energy, created to show that there are still pure and beautiful things left in this world.”
'Love Untangled' will premiere on Netflix on August 29.
