SEVENTEEN and TWICE, who both debuted in 2015 and are celebrating their 10th anniversary this year, showcased their long-standing friendship.

On July 15, a special video was released on TWICE’s official YouTube channel to celebrate Jihyo’s 20th anniversary since joining JYP Entertainment.
The celebration, themed as a “twenty-idol” party, featured appearances from fellow idol friends and colleagues. Among those who attended were TWICE’s Nayeon and Jeongyeon, GOT7’s BamBam, DAY6’s Sungjin, I.O.I’s Sejeong and Nayoung, as well as Seventeen’s Mingyu and Seungkwan.
In the video, Jihyo shared that she had joined JYP Entertainment as an acting trainee back in 2005. “I was initially taking acting classes but later transitioned into being a vocal trainee,” she explained. She recalled that 2010 was a year of big changes, noting that Nayeon, Jeongyeon, Sungjin, and BamBam all joined the company that year.
At that point, Seungkwan suddenly commented, “I’m jealous,” prompting curiosity. He then revealed, “I actually failed my JYP audition in 2010. It was the only agency that came all the way to Jeju Island. If you dig through their old hard drives, you’ll probably find me in there somewhere,” he said with a laugh.
Jihyo, who trained for 10 years, eventually debuted in 2015 as a member of TWICE through the survival program 'SIXTEEN'. “2015 became a special year because I got to meet the Seventeen members as friends,” she said. TWICE debuted in October of that year, while Seventeen debuted in May—making them peers in the industry.
Seungkwan playfully added, “When 'SIXTEEN' aired, it completely stole the spotlight from us. I was a bit salty, but I really enjoyed watching it.” He continued, “We weren’t close from the beginning. We gradually became friends as the years went by. One day, Mingyu invited me to come hang out, and I ended up going to the campsite that Jihyo’s parents run. That’s when I got close to her younger siblings too.”
He added with a laugh, “At the time, I wasn’t even that close with Jihyo, but we ended up playing Rummikub together with her parents and siblings.”
The unexpected but heartwarming story gave fans a glimpse into the natural friendships that blossom behind the scenes among K-pop idols.
