
Paramount Pictures has officially announced a new untitled K-pop movie in collaboration with HYBE America, starring Ji Young Yoo (from 'K-Pop Demon Hunters')and Eric Nam.
The project, set for theatrical release in February 2027, will be directed by Benson Lee, director of 'Seoul Searching.' Notably, the upcoming project is the first major American studio film shot entirely in South Korea.
The story follows a young Korean-American woman who goes against her family's wishes to enter a televised competition in hopes of becoming part of the next big K-pop girl group. Eileen Shim penned the latest script draft, building on work from previous writers such as Adele Lim, the writer for 'Crazy Rich Asians.'
Director Bensen Lee shared, "This film is my love letter to K-pop – its energy, passion, magic, and the incredible community behind it. I’m deeply grateful to Paramount Pictures for championing the project, to our producers for their unwavering dedication, to our talented and dynamic cast, and to the legends of the genre helping us bring this story to life. According to the latest reports from Deadline, "Pic is produced by James Shin, the Film/TV President of Hybe America, Arthur Spector and Joshua Davis of Epic Magazine, and Scooter Braun. EPs are Joshuah Bearman of Epic Magazine, John Zaozirny, and Scott Manson."
Meanwhile, Ji Young Yoo voiced Zoey from the latest hit Netflix and Sony Pictures animation film 'K-Pop Demon Hunters.' She also starred in Amazon Prime Video's limited series 'Expats' alongside Nicole Kidman.
Eric Nam has also made his acting debut in the 2024 feature film 'Transplant' and voiced Aang in the upcoming animated film 'The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender.'
