Hwa Sa candidly shared her feelings about the controversy surrounding her performance during her appearance on the July 13 broadcast of KBS2’s 'Crazy Rich Koreans'.
The singer had faced public backlash and a police investigation after delivering a provocative performance at a university festival last year. Following an inquiry involving both the accuser and Hwa Sa, the police concluded there were no grounds to pursue the case further.

Reflecting on that time, Hwa Sa said, “When the criticism hit its peak, my mom texted me for the first time and asked, ‘Are you okay, my daughter?’” She added, “Just reading those words—‘Are you okay?’—broke my heart.” She continued, “Even my parents didn’t really understand me when I was younger. So I told my mom, ‘If even you couldn’t understand me growing up, how could others?’ And she replied, ‘You’re my proud daughter,’” Hwa Sa recalled with a bittersweet smile.
She also revealed that she experienced symptoms of panic attack after the incident. “I suddenly became unstable at the airport in Turkey, and the members hugged me—no exaggeration, they all embraced me at the same time. That’s when I broke down in tears,” she said. “They might not even remember it, but I could feel that instinctively, they wanted to protect me,” she added with gratitude.
In a separate interview with the production team, Hwa Sa shared, “I’m human too, so there are times when I feel unstable. I don’t know why—it’s like I can’t breathe. When that moment comes, just being hugged by someone really helps calm me down.”
