NewJeans, the once most popular fifth-generation girl group with a bright future, has once again been at the center of an online discussion amidst their legal battle with their agency ADOR.
NewJeans' legal battle against ADOR/ HYBE
The dispute between ADOR and HYBE began in November 2024, when the group announced the termination of their exclusive contract, citing alleged mistreatment and a breakdown of trust.
In response, ADOR filed for an injunction to prevent the members from engaging in independent activities. On March 21, 2025, the Seoul Central District Court ruled in favor of ADOR, prohibiting NewJeans from conducting any entertainment activities without the agency's approval.
With the latest updates and ongoing feud, NewJeans faces an indefinite hiatus. One fan sparked a debate in an online community, claiming that NewJeans are replaceable due to the constant debut of new groups. However, NewJeans' passionate fanbase is claiming otherwise.
Discussion in a popular Korean online community
The netizen claimed, "NewJeans has been easily replaced for real. They probably thought they were one of a kind, but it was really just the company’s push that made them big. Like Min said, it wasn’t because they were talented. No matter who the members were, with that concept and those songs, they would’ve made it anyway. While they’re messing around like this, younger, prettier girls with similar concepts are popping up left and right, and more are coming. They're only in their fourth year, the time they should be working the hardest, but it already feels like they’re becoming a nostalgic memory. Not that I’m worried or anything because my life is even more messed up than theirs."

Netizens and fans debate
Korean netizens and fans debated:
"Saying there are tons of younger, prettier groups with similar concepts is kind of nonsense. I don’t agree with NewJeans’ recent moves either, but honestly, I haven’t seen any group that’s as young, unique, and has such good songs. I still listen to their music."
"I’ve seen so many knockoff NewJeans-style groups debut after them, but none of them came close. Whether it’s in dance or star quality, by the way, I’m not even a fan, that’s just how I feel."
"Out of all the groups that debuted after NewJeans, not one has matched their success or buzz. Come on, let’s be real LOL. The numbers don’t lie."
"What are you talking about... Has any group actually broken NewJeans’ records? Honestly, 'Hype Boy,' 'Attention,' 'Cookie,' 'Ditto,' 'Super Shy.' I still listen to them. Their concept and music were truly sensational. Even their name, NewJeans, was so unique and memorable."
"From a non-fan’s point of view, they’re completely irreplaceable. I still listen to 'Supernatural.' Please, just let NewJeans be or bring back Min Hee Jin so they can promote again. I want new music."
"The examples people posted are definitely pretty, but none of them can replace the shock and uniqueness of NewJeans. I wasn’t even a fan, but I haven’t seen a true replacement yet. Maybe eventually."
"They got big because of the music."
"Sure, prettier girl groups will keep coming out, but matching NewJeans’ song quality and concept? That’s not easy. They really were sensational."
"Personally, I think the girls in the post are prettier in terms of visuals. But as a group, NewJeans has better achievements, no?"
"Sigh… Their vibe, music, and uniqueness really were unmatched. The others are pretty, but they just don’t measure up to NewJeans."
"HYBE’s money and Min Hee Jin’s creative sense were seriously amazing. The music and concepts were top-notch. I wasn’t into the members personally, but the creative direction was insane."
"If NewJeans returns, they would easily become the one top. I don't like ADOR either but they should return to the label before it's too late."
