Actor Kim Soo Hyun’s iconic drama 'My Love from the Star' is set to air in South America for the very first time. On June 2nd (local time), Brazil’s largest commercial broadcaster SBT will begin airing the series, marking its official debut in the region—11 years after its original broadcast in Korea in 2013.
SBT explained its decision, saying, “There has been an explosive increase in demand for Korean pop culture content in Brazil.” The network also revealed that it had created a dedicated programming block called Asian Production Line, with 'My Love from the Star' chosen as its inaugural title.
Following the announcement, fans of Kim Soo Hyun left celebratory messages on SBT’s official website and social media platforms. Many are also creating promotional content to welcome the drama’s broadcast.
Beyond Brazil, the series is also gaining renewed attention in Asia. Recently, Taiwan’s Korean entertainment-focused channel Korea Entertainment TV announced that it would rebroadcast 'My Love from the Star', further proving the drama’s enduring popularity.
This international revival comes at a time when Kim Soo Hyun is facing personal controversy. Allegations surfaced claiming he dated the late Kim Sae Ron while she was still underage. Although he initially denied the relationship, he later admitted that they were romantically involved after she reached adulthood. At a recent press conference, he explained his earlier denial by saying, “I made that decision as the celebrity Kim Soo Hyun.” The situation has led to a lawsuit demanding approximately 5.8 billion KRW(approximately 4.2 million USD) in endorsement fee refunds and damages.
Despite the ongoing legal and public scrutiny, the renewed interest in Kim Soo Hyun’s past works—especially the confirmed broadcast in Brazil and re-airing in Taiwan—has sparked discussion about whether he might rebuild his presence through overseas markets.
