JK Kim Dong Wook, also known as John Kim, a singer based in Canada, is likely to face another legal complaint.

On June 10 KST, Shin Seung Mok, head of the civic group National Alliance for the Elimination of Deep-Rooted Evils, announced via Facebook,

“We have decided to file a complaint against JK Kim Dong Wook for violating the Information and Communications Network Act,”

referring to him disparagingly as a “nobody” and stating,

“We will not go easy on him. We will report him according to the law, as the people wish.”

Shin added,

“JK Kim Dong Wook maliciously spread false information with the intent of defaming President Lee Jae Myung, as if the President and the presidential office were disseminating fake news themselves. Many citizens have suffered mental distress due to his actions. I want to make him taste a legal lesson — to teach him that ‘life is real business.’”

This follows JK Kim Dong Wook’s Instagram post on June 7, in which he wrote:

“You leftist lowlifes, do you all go to the same school to learn how to send DMs like this?”

and

“Check first if President Lee was actually invited to the G7 Summit in Canada before sliding into my DMs.”

President Lee Jae Myung is set to make his debut in summit diplomacy at the G7 meeting in Alberta, Canada, on June 15. JK Kim Dong Wook’s comments appeared to cast doubt on this scheduled appearance.

In addition, back in January, JK Kim Dong Wook was reported for violating Article 17 of the Immigration Control Act, which prohibits foreigners from engaging in political activities in South Korea. The complainant argued that as a foreign national, he should not have participated in domestic political rallies — specifically pointing to his attendance at a rally opposing the impeachment of former president Yoon Suk Yeol and his continued political commentary on social media.

In response, JK Kim Dong Wook had said,

“This is my first time being reported. When did South Korea become a country that suppresses free speech? There are many foreign nationals, including Chinese, at protests in Korea — why am I the only one being targeted?”

Following the latest announcement of a second complaint, he posted:

“South Korea is going to suffer a lot soon,”

and warned,

“Everyone, get ready in advance. Tighten your belts — make sure they’re strong ones.”
