Actor Song Il Kook is set to make a candid appearance on the May 7th broadcast of MBC’s 'Radio Star,' where he will share the ups and downs of parenting his triplet sons over the past 14 years.
The episode, titled 'When Life Gives You Tangerines,' is a special edition for Korea’s Parents' Day and will also feature actress Oh Min Ae, TV personality Jeong Sia, and singer KCM.
Song gained national popularity through the reality show 'The Return of Superman,' where he appeared with his sons Daehan, Minguk, and Manse. During the upcoming episode, he reveals that all three boys are now in middle school and going through puberty. “They listen to their mom, but when it comes to me, they just blurt things out,” he said, honestly sharing the challenges of fatherhood.
Married to a judge and often handling the parenting responsibilities himself, Song admitted that the pressure has been overwhelming at times. “During the filming of The Return of Superman, I was so exhausted that I left the kids with citizens of Songdo and took a break,” he said, which reportedly left the studio in laughter.
He added that each of his sons has a completely different personality and that he sometimes misses their younger days. Other guests on the show, who have parenting experience themselves, offered practical advice, leading to lighthearted moments and laughter.
Song also reminisced about the popularity of 'The Return of Superman,' revealing that the triplet-themed calendar sold nearly 300 million KRW (approximately $220,000), which was entirely donated to charity.
In addition to his parenting journey, Song discussed his latest role as the lead in the musical 'Sorrow with a Sword in My Heart.' He shared that he shaved his head and learned eight musical numbers for the performance. “I promised to lose 10 kilograms for the role,” he said, describing his character as someone who could be compared to Admiral Yi Sun Sin in terms of significance and honor.
With sincerity and humor, Song Il Kook’s appearance is expected to offer both heartfelt moments and laughs to viewers who can relate to the challenges of parenting.
