Kyuhyun, a member of the K-pop group Super Junior, has listed the property he previously operated as a guesthouse for sale.
According to a Hankyung.com report on May 26, the building located in Namsan-dong, Jung-gu, Seoul, owned by Kyuhyun, has been put on the market for 9.5 billion KRW (approx. 7 million USD). Including the adjacent lot behind the building, which is also up for sale, the total asking price amounts to 11.8 billion KRW (approx. 8.7 million USD).
Kyuhyun originally purchased the properties in June 2014. Situated near Exit 2 of Myeongdong Station, the buildings occupy a prime location. The main building, with a total floor area of 1,714㎡ across six above-ground floors and one basement level, was acquired for 7.3 billion KRW. The adjoining 70㎡ two-story building was purchased for 2.3 billion KRW, bringing the total purchase price to 9.6 billion KRW.
At the time, the real estate registry indicated a maximum secured debt of 6 billion KRW, suggesting that approximately 5 billion KRW of the purchase was likely financed through loans.
The building originally housed businesses such as a photo studio, but was later converted into a guesthouse and café, reportedly operated by Kyuhyun’s father.
During an appearance on MBC’s 'Radio Star', Kyuhyun explained his motivation for opening the guesthouse: “It was during the ‘10 million tourists’ era in Korea. Myeongdong had so many tourists, so we opened a guesthouse. My parents and sister managed it, and it had about 60 rooms.”
At its peak, the property reportedly generated as much as 17 million KRW (approx. $12,500) in room revenue over a single three-day weekend—earning Kyuhyun praise for what was considered a successful real estate investment.
However, following the COVID-19 pandemic, a sharp decline in tourism, and shifting tourist hotspots, the property has now been listed for sale.
