Karina, a member of the popular girl group aespa, is at the center of a growing political controversy. The situation has placed several brands that have featured her as a model in a difficult position, especially as South Korea's presidential election approaches.

The controversy began on May 27 when Karina posted several photos on her Instagram account. Taken on a street in Japan, the photos showed her wearing a jacket with the number '2' printed in red. She also included a rose emoji in the caption.

Soon after, the post began circulating on online communities under titles like "Karina’s Recent Update."

Speculation followed, with some users interpreting her outfit and emoji as a sign of support for a specific political candidate from the conservative People Power Party. The number two and the rose are both associated with the party’s presidential campaign.

Supporters of the party responded enthusiastically, leaving comments praising Karina and even referring to her as a "patriotic conservative." The party itself went as far as to publicly thank her.

As the speculation gained traction, Karina deleted the post and issued a statement through a fan communication platform. "I had absolutely no political intent," she wrote. "I will be more mindful and careful in the future." Despite her explanation, the public debate continues.

The brands that work with Karina are currently treating the incident as an unfortunate misunderstanding. No moves have been made to end contracts or remove advertisements featuring her.

However, some companies appear to be watching the situation closely. There is growing concern among supporters of opposition parties that the controversy could lead to calls for boycotts.

Karina is currently a promotional model for a wide range of brands. These include Lotte Chilsung Beverage's Crush, Coca-Cola’s Sprite, SPC Group’s Pascucci, Musinsa Beauty, Converse, outdoor brand Nordisk, and luxury fashion house Prada.

A representative from one of the brands commented that misunderstandings like this are not uncommon during politically sensitive times. "Even fashion choices or gestures unrelated to politics can be misinterpreted," the representative said. "We understand this as a minor incident."

Another company spokesperson declined to comment, stating only, "We have nothing to say regarding Karina at this time."
