On her birthday, Hyein of NewJeans shared handwritten letters to fans, expressing her gratitude and heartfelt emotions during a challenging time for the group.
On April 22, Hyein uploaded several photos of handwritten replies on the Instagram account @mhdhh_friends, which she runs along with her fellow NewJeans members. The letters were responses to fan mail, and each reply reflected her sincere appreciation.
In one of the letters, Hyein humbly wrote, “To be honest, I still feel like we haven’t done much for Bunnies (NewJeans’ fandom). You’ve given us so much more.” In another, she added, “Knowing that such strong Bunnies are supporting us gives us immense strength. It reminded me of the important things I never want to forget in life,” and “I believe we’ll grow by nourishing ourselves with the struggles we face. Thank you for your encouraging words.”
Hyein also addressed a letter to all Bunnies, saying, “Every single letter gave me strength and comfort. I wish I could respond to each one personally. But since I can’t, I worry that those who don’t receive replies might feel hurt.” She continued, “I hope you don’t feel too disappointed. Every Bunny who supports us is equally precious to me.”
The emotional letters come amid an ongoing dispute between NewJeans and their former agency, ADOR. In November last year, the group announced their intention to terminate their exclusive contract with ADOR and began independent activities under the new name NJZ.
In response, ADOR filed a lawsuit to confirm the validity of the exclusive contract, along with an injunction to suspend NJZ's entertainment activities and prevent them from signing commercial deals.
In March, the court ruled in favor of ADOR, leading to the suspension of NewJeans’ independent activities. Although the group filed an objection to the court’s decision, it was dismissed. They are currently appealing the ruling.
