On March 22 KST, Saram Entertainment confirmed that actor Cho Jin Woong paid additional tax penalties of 1.1 billion KRW (~ $750,000 USD) after undergoing a routine audit.
The agency further clarified, "The issue stemmed from differing interpretations over the earnings of a company established by Cho Jin Woong. Initially, Cho Jin Woong reported these earnings as corporate tax and paid the due taxes; however, after a careful review, the tax authorities determined that additional income taxes must be imposed."
Saram Entertainment then assured that Cho Jin Wong "promptly paid the full amount of the assessed taxes in accordance with the authorities' decision." Following the payment, Cho Jin Woong proceeded to request a legal review of the assessment, which is currently ongoing. A series of similar cases are currently under review, such as in the case of actor Yoo Yeon Seok and actress Honey Lee, who were also penalized with additional unpaid taxes related to their private companies.
