Actor Kwak Si Yang made a heartfelt confession about his thoughts on marriage during his appearance on MBC's variety show Radio Star. The episode, titled “Clear Skies for My Second Act," will air on January 15 and features guests including Choo Shin Soo, Koo Hye Sun, Kwak Si Yang, and Yoon Nam No.
Kwak Si Yang, known for playing leads in romance dramas, recently gained significant attention for his chilling performance as a villain, showcasing his versatility and surprising fans. Kwak attributed his ability to transform into such contrasting roles to a unique 'secret' about his face, sparking curiosity.
When the topic of his age came up, Kwak candidly shared his thoughts on marriage. While expressing his dream of starting a family soon, he revealed the practical challenges holding him back. As the youngest in his family and the youngest child of elderly parents, Kwak has taken on the role of breadwinner, shouldering financial responsibilities for his household.
“I want to get married, but the reality is, I have no money,” Kwak admitted, eliciting warm encouragement from the other guests who wished him happiness.
Kwak previously made headlines in September 2023 when his relationship with actress Lim Hyun Ju, known from Channel A’s 'Heart Signal 2,' was made public. The couple openly showed affection on social media by liking each other’s posts and wearing couple rings.
During a press interview for his movie Desperate Chase, Kwak cautiously commented on marriage, saying, “I’ve thought about it, but I also have to consider her perspective.” However, after a year of dating, the two parted ways in November 2024. Both agencies confirmed the breakup, stating that they decided to remain supportive colleagues.
In the upcoming episode, viewers will also see a lighter side of Kwak as a self-proclaimed 'successful fan' of baseball star Choo Shin Soo. Sitting next to Choo left Kwak visibly flustered and excited. He later received an autographed baseball and a one-point pitching lesson, fulfilling a lifelong dream and bringing laughter to the studio.
Kwak also shared his admiration for actress Jang Na Ra, revealing that he once spent an entire night waiting outside just to catch a glimpse of her during his school days. He humorously linked his decision to play the villain in 'Good Partner' to his admiration for Jang Na Ra, joking that she had somehow inspired him. Despite the backlash his villainous role received, Kwak expressed gratitude for the experience.
'Radio Star' airs every Wednesday at 10:30 PM KST on MBC.
