Chef Ahn Yoo Seong announced that he and the 'Culinary Class Wars' team would visit Muan Airport to support bereaved families. On December 31, Chef Ahn connected via phone with SBS Power FM's 'Cultwo Show'.
Previously, Chef Ahn had delivered 200 servings of kimbap to comfort the families affected by the Jeju Air crash. At the time, he shared, "Cooking is my only talent, and I thought volunteering through food would bring me some peace of mind. On January 1, I plan to prepare rice cake soup for the bereaved families."
During his phone call with 'Cultwo Show', Ahn said, "My heart felt heavy, and I couldn’t focus on anything. Since cooking is my only skill, I decided to bring kimbap to them. I wasn’t sure if I could be of any help, but I was drawn to go. When I arrived at the site, the grief was overwhelming."
He continued, "The families are temporarily living in tents. When I handed them the kimbap, despite their exhaustion and sorrow, they said, 'It tastes good.' Hearing that made me think that, if my cooking could bring even a fraction of comfort, I should stay by their side. I plan to visit them regularly while they remain in Muan. I want to be there for them. Although my cooking might not provide even one-millionth of the solace they need, I hope it helps them regain some strength."
Chef Ahn also mentioned, "Tomorrow is January 1, so I’ve prepared abalone porridge for the families. We’ve made 300 bowls, hoping it will help them recover even a little. Many of the 'Culinary Class Wars' chefs will join in this effort as well."
Meanwhile, on December 29, a Jeju Air passenger plane collided with an exterior wall while attempting to land at Muan International Airport, engulfing in flames. The tragic accident claimed 179 lives and injured two others. The government has declared Muan County a special disaster area and designated a national mourning period until January 4.
