KIMPRO has made history by becoming the first individual-operated YouTube channel in South Korea to surpass 50 million subscribers.
According to the fourth-week August 2024 rankings of domestic YouTube channels released by Tube Guide on August 29, Kim Pro amassed 759.42 million weekly views and gained 2.3 million subscribers, bringing the channel to an impressive 51.6 million subscribers. This milestone places the channel at the top of the rankings.
Since launching full-scale activities on YouTube in August 2022, KIMPRO has become the first Korean individual creator to reach the 50 million subscriber mark and they accomplished it in just two years. The channel now ranks fourth overall in the country, trailing behind industry giants like BLACKPINK (94.6 million), BTS (78.8 million), and HYBE (75.6 million).
The channel is run by male content creator Kim Dong Jun, a former event planner, along with his female cousin Yoo Baek Hap. Together, they produce engaging short-form content, largely centered around international memes and viral challenges, which have helped them rapidly grow their audience.
Despite KIMPRO's recent milestone of surpassing 50 million subscribers, Korean netizens are expressing confusion about the YouTuber's rapid rise in popularity. Many have commented online that they have never heard of KIMPRO and are puzzled as to how the channel amassed such a large following in such a short time.
