K-netizens divided over LE SSERAFIM's Huh Yunjin reading a "feminist book"

AKP STAFF

LE SSERAFIM's Huh Yunjin found herself in the middle of a minor controversy after she was seen reading a book on a recent episode of 'Point of Omniscient Interfere.'

This is because some male fans are saying the book she was reading is content related to feminism.

Some male-centric online communities are leaving comments and reactions such as "Is Huh Yunjin a feminist? She was a popular member among men" and "I deleted Huh Yunjin's song from my playlist."

The episode of 'Point of Omniscient Interfere,' which aired on February 25, featured LE SSERAFIM members as they released their new album 'EASY.' On this day, Huh Yunjin was seen reading a book while getting her hair and makeup. She was seen reading the book thoroughly, even taking notes on the side of the pages. The book she was reading was 'Breasts and Eggs' by Mieko Kawakami.

Not only that, Huh Yunjin carried other books in her bag, including 'All About Love' by Bell Hooks, 'How to Understand the World' by Nietzsche, and 'Ways of Seeing' by John Berger.

After the show aired, some male-centric online communities questioned whether Huh Yunjin was a feminist and engaged in a heated discussion. These communities pointed out that 'Breast and Eggs' is about feminism.

'Breasts and Eggs' vividly portrays the modern female experience in Japan, documenting the personal odysseys of three women as they grapple with societal constraints and their own doubts, ultimately striving to carve out lives that resonate with their true selves.

It is known as a work that won the Akutagawa Prize, Japan's highest literary award, in 2008. It was penned by the author Kawakami Mieko, who meticulously describes the delicate emotional changes and interactions between mother and daughter.

As this controversy emerged, fans responded with comments defending Huh Yunjin. They commented, "Reading feminist books doesn't make you a feminist," "Many men support feminism, so why only criticize female idols," and "People should learn diverse reading habits."

Funny how these men will idolise a women and sexualise her, but the moment she touches anything about feminism, they criticise her. It's like they want to continue objectifying women and for them to not realise they are equal to men. Sad thing is, around 75% of men in Korea don't support feminism, which means that 75% don't agree with women being treated equally. Just remember that when you think of idolising a Korean man.
