GWSN's Japanese member Miya likens her K-pop idol life to a 'prison'; reveals strict diet and weight expectations

For Miya, the Japanese member of girl group GWSN, life in the K-pop industry was a "prison."

In an interview with Japan's Asahi Shimbun newspaper published on May 22, Miya revealed the many problems she experienced during her time training and promoting in Korea. She mentioned that she recently talked on the phone with a GWSN member, having said "We were in a prison."

"I started practicing right after I came back from school, and then we each started private lessons. So, when everyone was finished, it was completely dark outside,"
she clarified in the interview. "Also, every time I went to practice, I weighed myself in front of my manager. I had to report my diet, like 'I'll eat bananas and boiled eggs' or 'I'll only eat one apple.' I felt like I was going crazy."

Miya also said that the agency had taken her money, free time, and even her cell phone, adding, "I was barely able to contact my family on the manager's phone. During music video shoots, there would be food for the staff, and we'd steal tteokbokki and chicken and eat them secretly. As a result, the teamwork between the members got tight."

"Usually at that age, we'd be talking about boys, but we always talked about food. The only fun was sneaking out of the dorm and going to the convenience store,"
she continued.

Meanwhile, Miya debuted as a member of GWSN in September 2018. However, the group eventually moved from Kiwi Media Group to The Wave Music in April 2021 due to financial difficulties. The group released their 5th mini-album 'THE OTHER SIDE OF THE MOON' in May of the same year, but they have not been active since.

Eventually, in January 2023, the GWSN members filed a lawsuit against the agency for termination of the exclusive contract and won their case in the first trial. In Miya's case particularly, the agency reportedly neglected her visa work, paid visa-related fines, and even caused her to have illegal alien status on her record.

"I don't know what's going on inside the company. I don't feel like blaming them because it's a business thing,"
she commented on the topic. "I want to be able to try acting or modeling work in the future. I also want to try an audition show. I think it'd be a shame if someone like me disappears from the K-pop scene."

This is so sad that one of the reasons why they became tight knit was because they would smuggle food so they could have something to eat...

I agree with her that her disappearing from the entertainment world would be a loss. she's very talented. i am sad to hear how poorly they were managed, but i think we all knew that. i hope she's happier now she's free from her prison!
