Is Attending a K-pop Concert Worth It for Casual Music Enthusiasts?

There's been a discourse over whether or not you can attend a concert despite being a "casual listener." But here's the thing, concerts don't only cater to fans. Concerts are generally a part of marketing to further promote the artists, to any audience, which includes; fans, casual listeners, and if they're lucky, non-fans to turn them into fans.

Personally, I went to an EXO concert only knowing Baekhyun because I was a fan of the kdrama Scarlet Heart, and mind you; I was nowhere into K-Pop at that point in time. But it was that concert that changed my life forever. I not only became an EXO-L, but that was how I started being a K-Pop fan in the first place.

If tickets are affordable? Yes.

Concert tickets can be either on the insanely-expensive side or very affordable. So, if the ticket cost is manageable for you and you're interested, why not? You might be surprised by how life-changing the evening would be.

It's okay, even if you only know a song or two

Who says you need to be the biggest fan and know every word to every song to go to their concert? A Reddit user mentioned that they went to a concert despite only knowing a few songs and enjoyed it so much that they ended up going the second night too. Just make sure you don't annoyingly brag, "I don't even know them but here I am," because that's not going to get you anything. If you're there to enjoy the show, then just enjoy it. No one needs to know your background story.

Casual fans usually would turn into the biggest fan

Another Reddit user said, "hey, casual fans going to concerts tend to make big fans so... I'd say it's worth it." - Yes, why do you think festivals such as KCON exist? You might be there to only cheer for your one favorite group/idol, but listening to the other groups perform might make you stan them too!

CONTAGIOUS ENERGY!!!

A Reddit user who went to a concert to fill in for another friend who could not make it said, "the energy was contagious and I didn't know a single song!" - That's what K-Pop concerts do to you. I have been to non-K-Pop concerts too, but it's just something about K-Pop concerts that has this insane energy that makes it so addictive that you just want to keep going!

Check out the setlist

If you don't want to feel too out of place and sort of just be more 'prepared,' you can always check out the setlist for the concert and listen to those songs. That way, you won't overwhelm yourself with all of the songs, especially if the group has already released a lot of songs.

A Reddit user left a warning which I believe you would need to consider: "I will only say to be careful because I went as a casual fan and left absolutely obsessed!" - don't say I didn't warn you.

K-Pop concerts will NEVER DISAPPOINT

Another Reddit user talked about their experience of attending a concert as a casual listener, mainly because they wanted to spend time with their friends, and said that "90% of the time K-Pop artists will still entertain you, even if their music isn’t 100% up your alley. Made me appreciate them more as artists too because their entire show was amazing." - Truly, even if you don't come out obsessed, you will undoubtedly appreciate the performances they put on.

If tickets are reasonably priced yet. I can get alot of band tickets in my city for 20 bucks but cheapest kpop tickets are around 150.

There are still tickets for tonight's Epik High Concert In NYC. Definitely worth it. Granted you would have to be in the city already to make it to the show on time.
