Seven-member girl group under J9 Entertainment, a subsidiary company of C9 Entertainment, cignature - consisting of members CHAESOL, JEEWON, SELINE, CHLOE, BELLE, SEMI, and DOHEE - recently returned to the K-Pop scene with 'My Little Aurora,' marking their first comeback in about a year and two months since 'Dear Diary Moment,' which was released back in November of 2021. 

'My Little Aurora' is the septet's third mini-album, featuring the title track "Aurora" and the B-side songs "I'm Okay," "Palace," and "Parade." The title song, "Aurora," is a thrilling song depicting the destined journey of girls going to meet the Aurora of their dreams. The catchy tune, cute and refreshing lyrics, and cignature's distinctive vocal color blend well with the exciting and upbeat EDM house, creating a pleasant energy.

To commemorate the release of 'My Little Aurora,' cignature caught up with allkpop to discuss the album in detail, share their favorite moments of their career thus far, goals for this year, and more. Keep reading to know more about cignature!

allkpop: First of all, congratulations on the release of your latest album 'My Little Aurora.' It's been over a year since your last album 'Dear Diary Moment,' which was released in 2021. How does it feel to be back in the K-Pop scene, preparing for the album, recording the songs, doing promotions, and all that? 

SEMI: We really wanted to present our new title track "AURORA" to everyone, so we're very excited to finally be able to do so. It feels even more special to meet our fans after a while.

JEEWON: First of all, I'd like to thank you for interviewing us. We received a lot of good energy while preparing this album. We wish to share such good energy with our fans, SignFan.

CHAESOL: I feel the same way. We're back with "AURORA" after a year, and it's a much brighter song than our previous release, "Boyfriend." Such positive energy and the thought of meeting our fans made preparing and practicing for this album enjoyable.

allkpop: How did the preparations for this album go? Could you share with us some of your favorite moments/highlights from the recording of the tracks to the filming of the music video? 

BELLE: When we were practicing "AURORA" choreography, there is a part where we jump together. We worked hard to get that timing right while looking cute, and I remember thinking that our members look so cute while sharing ideas and working together.

allkpop: Also, since it has been over a year since your last comeback. Did you feel any pressure to do well for your fans while preparing for this album? If so, how did you overcome it?

CHLOE: We definitely had some pressure while preparing for the album, but I think during those one year, we were able to build our foundation and practice more so we can perform better on stage. And I think we spent a lot of time together so we grew up as a group, and I think it was a very memorable time. I appreciate those one year, and I hope SignFans can see that through our performance.

allkpop: This album expresses your excitement on your way to discovering your dreams. How did you express the actions and emotions needed to convey in your songs in a color that matches cignature while recording the songs?

CHAESOL: We wanted to show different aspects of cignature through the new song; dreamy, mysterious, pure yet powerful, and positive. So we worked hard together with very high energy. Not only did we work as a group, but also we thought about and studied individually our facial expressions by imagining various situations from the lyrics and thinking of the best way to express ourselves in our performances.

allkpop: How do you incorporate your own colors into one as cignature?

SELINE: When we practice together, we always have a fun time. We would joke and laugh a lot, and sometimes we would even shout while dancing. I believe our high tension and great chemistry really improve our performance.

allkpop: During the year-long break, it's best to use the time to hone and develop your skills. You said that not only vocal lessons but also took language lessons for you to easily communicate with your fans. How was your experience and how did each of you spend your time improving your skills for this comeback?

CHAESOL: First of all, I'd like to thank our fans who waited for us during our hiatus. We've been communicating with our fans through various media, such as the official fan cafe and social media accounts. We also received hand-written letters from our fans and reading thought made us miss our fans even more. After missing them so much, it is very special and happy to see our fans at various shows and events and to spend time with them.                  

SEMI: I would like to add to what Chaesol mentioned, that our fans have cheered us up a lot. With their support, we are always motivated to work harder to create great performances as a group.               

   

DOHEE: Our fans leave such sweet and positive messages on our social media or fan cafe, and those messages always cheer us up. We were able to show our bright energy by reading their messages.

allkpop: 'My Little Aurora' is about dreams and ideals, a dream-like moment that you don't want to end. What are some goals or dreams that you are chasing for the year to come?

BELLE: Since we had a long hiatus, we hope to meet SignFans with various opportunities in 2023. Also, I personally wish we could meet our fans through a fan meeting or a concert.                  

SELINE: If there's a good opportunity, we hope to perform in front of SignFans around the world.

allkpop: This is the third time you've worked with choreographer Lee Jung. What was it like working with her, and what was it like practicing the song's choreography?

JEEWON: We've been working with Lee Jung from YGX since "ARISONG" from our first mini album. We already fell in love with "AURORA," but I think Lee Jung's performance really brought unique characteristics to the song. Also, she gave us great advice which motivated us to present better energy and performance. It was a precious experience.

allkpop: Last time, cignature showed their mature side through 'Dear Diary Moment.' This time, you took up an opposite side showcasing fresh and bubbly characters. If you were to describe your music and artistry to those hearing your music for the first time, how would you describe it? 

BELLE: I think it's tough to describe us in one word to people who have never listened to or seen us. I'd like to describe cignature as an all-rounder team who can excel in whatever. You can look forward to our voices and performances that fit any music!

allkpop: This year marks cignature's 3rd anniversary - congratulations! What has been the most memorable experience or favorite moment of your career thus far?

SELINE: We debuted right around when COVID-19 emerged, so it was sad to not be able to meet our fans. The most distinctive moment I remember would be our first fan sign event where we could actually meet our fans in person.

CHLOE: For me, I would say this comeback is very special to me because it's my first comeback, and we were able to do a performance on a beautiful stage on 'M! Countdown.' And we saw our fans for the first time and we heard their fan chants while we were performing, so I think that was very memorable. I hope we can meet our fans through those music shows more often, and I think that's why it was very memorable.

allkpop: How do you plan to celebrate this milestone moment of your career?

SELINE: We prepare a live broadcast or special content for every anniversary, so I think we'll prepare something special again for our third anniversary.

allkpop: Since your debut to date, how has the group evolved as artists? What are some of the things this journey has taught you?

SEMI: When we were monitoring together for the first show of "AURORA," I could see an overall improvement in all of our members, such as facial expressions and performance. That made me realize that we all improved in various aspects.              

    

BELLE: We worked with new genres of music while preparing for the album, and I was wondering if cignature would be able to pull it off. But at the end of the day, everyone did so well, and that showed me our improvement.

allkpop: What does being a part of cignature mean to each member? How do you continue to inspire and motivate each other every day?

DOHEE: We all live together in a dorm, so we spend more time together than we do individually. When we practice, we share feedback and encouraging words. We have a lot to learn from each other, and now cignature has become my other family.            

      

JEEWON: I had quite a low self-confidence, but my members are very confident, brave, and cool. I learned a lot from being surrounded and cheered by the members, so I'm very thankful for them.

CHLOE: I think cignature members are my teachers for many reasons. I learned a lot of dancing skills from them, and they also give me good advice so I can perform better. They're very nice teachers, and they're my best friends, they're like my only friends.
