Many find Gordon Ramsay's request to deploy Korean policemen and guard him on the subway to be unreasonable

AKP STAFF

World-famous celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay has come to South Korea.

On November 10, Gordon Ramsay garnered much attention when he personally visited Asia's first Gordon Ramsay Burger restaurant located at the Lotte Tower in Jamsil, Seoul.

However, it was reported that Gordon Ramsay made a special request that many Korean netizens found to be unreasonable.

According to Kyunghyang Shinmun, Gordon Ramsay asked the police, Seoul Transportation Corporation, and the Korea Railroad Corporation (KORAIL) to put up safety measures whenever the chef takes public transportation.

Specifically, Gordon Ramsay's agency filed a complaint with the National Police Agency asking for on-site control personnel that will guard the chef when he is traveling by subway for an hour from 11 AM on that day.

Gordon Ramsay traveled from Jamsil Station to Seolleung Station and Seoul Forest Station. The police deployed security personnel at Jamsil Station and Seoul Forest Station.

It is said that Gordon Ramsay's agency made the request for fear of safety due to the recent Itaewon tragedy.

But as the news spread, there were mixed reactions.

Netizens commented, "Gordon Ramsay is a real celebrity so his request is understandable," "It's better to have precautions and deploy security personnel rather than to have an accident in the future," and "He has the freedom to request these things."

On the other hand, netizens commented, "Well, if he is that worried, he can take a car," "I think this is too much just for an individual to take the subway," "Is he the president or something?" "He should just travel in a private car if he's so worried," "He should just hire his own private security and bodyguards," "I don't think I would even recognize him even if he sat next to me on the subway," and "He should have just hired his own private security guards, why ask the police?"

Yeah, I agree with the comments that he should have just hired private security if he's so adamant on taking public transportation. It's not like he's there for a state-sanctioned visit to be escorted by the local police. He's a private individual who's there for his private for-profit business. Consider it a business expense to hire personal bodyguards 🤨 (and frankly, while Gordon Ramsey is well-known to the English speaking world– I don't think he's at the level of will-be-mobbed-by-the-South-Korean-crowd kind of famous. But I digress... 🤷🏻‍♀️)
