Suspended VICTON member Heochan writes an apology for his drunk driving

AKP STAFF

A day ago, it was reported that VICTON will be continuing as a 5-member group following Heochan's DUI.

On September 22, VICTON's agency IST Entertainment released a statement confirming that Heochan was caught driving drunk on the morning of September 20. The label added that Heochan's license is subject to be revoked.

On the same day, Heochan posted an apology on his Instagram, explaining that he regrets his thoughtless mistake.

He wrote:

"Hello. This is Heochan.

I sincerely bow my head and apologize for sharing bad news ahead of many schedules coming up.

I once again apologize for causing a social controversy due to my wrong actions on September 20.

Even though I should have taken more responsibility for my actions as a public figure who should be an example to the public and fans, I have become a disappointment through a moment of a wrong decision.
I am spending time every single day sincerely self-reflecting and regretting.

Above all, I am self-reflecting thinking about my fans, members, the company, and many staff who believed in me and supported me during the past 6 years, and many others who may have been hurt by my lacking.

I will think back many times deeply regretting how much I hurt and disappointed everyone and made them suffer through this incident. I will live while self-reflecting in my heart on all the criticisms and reprimands towards my irreversible actions to become a person who will not be shameful in the future.

I sincerely bow my head and apologize for causing a controversy once again.

I am sorry.

I love Victon but I don't know if I can forgive anyone who gets into a car drunk. I was at a conference years ago where a man talked about the dangers of drunk driving and how he lost his mother due to the irresponsible actions of a drunk driver, and that has stuck me with ever since. Do I think he should stop pursuing his dream as an idol though (I don't think the company ever confirmed that he had left the group)? No, he can continue for all that matters, but he better accept the repercussions of his actions and actually work on the way he values his own and other people's lives rather than just say he will improve.

.

Speaking of, is it just me or are kpop idols' apologies always super vague? Like they all look the same "I will live in shame, I bow my head in apology, I will work to better myself," etc. They rarely mention the actual problem at hand.

Being a drunk driver is not a 'mistake' it's a choice - he's only sorry that he got caught. An apology is nice but the most important thing is that he means it and doesn't do it again.
