KBS Entertainment News discussed people's increasing dependence on masks and the rising trend of masks being treated as a fashion statement.
In the report, BTS's Kim Taehyung, aka V, along with BLACKPINK's Jennie and actor Park Bo Gum were named the 3 representative fashionistas in the entertainment industry who can pull off wearing masks nicely.
Although mask requirements have been lifted in Korea since May, 88% of people still wore them outdoors. The current mask dependence is even worse in Japan.
According to a Japanese opinion poll, the reasons people gave for wearing masks were: 20-30% of men who said "I don't have to shave my beard," 30-40% of women that said "I don't have to wear makeup," and 40% of teenage girls who said "Because it makes you look cute and pretty."
Unlike in the past when masks were plain white, today they come in all colors and have become a fashion item that can be worn to match any attire. And leading in the trends of fashionable celebrity mask users are Taehyung, Jennie and Park Bo Gum.
