According to reports, the idol group member enlisted the military in private and SM Entertainment did not disclose the location and time of enlistment. The company also did not hold any event for the enlistment.
Instead, Chanyeol left a lengthy letter for his fans on a fan community site the night before. He wrote, "First of all, I want to say sorry for causing so much concern to EXO-L, who waited for the longest time. I contemplated and thought about how I can protect all the EXO-Ls and repay the love you have shown but I ended up worrying everyone. I will put forth more effort to show that what you believe is not wrong."
Before enlisting, Chanyeol also posted a photo of himself showing off D.O's watch with the caption "Goodbye" along with the hashtag, "Kyungsoo's watch" on Instagram showing off his friendship with D.O.
Chanyeol is the fifth member of EXO to enlist in the mandatory military service following D.O, Xiumin, Suho, and Chen. Chanyeol is expected to return from the national service in September of 2022.
Meanwhile, Chanyeol made his debut with the group EXO back in 2012 and gained much popularity by releasing numerous hit songs such as "Growl" and "Love Shot" with the group.
