A look back at the top five records set by BTS’s V in 2020.

As the world steps into a new year with a bundle of hope and aspirations, many are ticking off their accomplishments in 2020. One such is the BTS ARMY who has taken over the Twitter-verse congratulating the septet for their record-breaking year. In particular, member V received an abundance of love through #HitMakerKimTaehyung and #ThankYouTaehyung throughout the week.

While V is no stranger to setting new records every year, 2020 presented the star with various milestones in his career. Here is a look back at the top five records set by V in the past year.

1. V is the artist with the most number 1s (117) on worldwide iTunes and also holds the record for the most-streamed Korean soundtrack of 2020 on Spotify.

V kick-started the year by gracing the fans with his first-ever solo soundtrack titled “Sweet Night.” Throughout the year, the song set several records on various platforms worldwide ultimately bagging the title of the #1 Korean soundtrack of the year.

As of now, Sweet Night has topped 117 countries worldwide marking V as the only artist in the world to achieve this milestone. It is highly notable that the record was previously held by the renowned megastar Adele with 105 #1s for her 2015 smash-hit “Hello.” In addition, the song is also the most-streamed Korean soundtrack on Spotify closing the year with 92 million streams. V has also won the “Best OST of 2020” award at the Big 20 Charts and Apan Star Awards.

2. V holds the record for the most-viewed solo fan cam for two consecutive years.

In 2019, V’s “M2 Boy With Luv” fancam set a brand new record as it became the most-watched, most-liked and most-commented fancam in the history of K-pop. In 2020, the “King of Fancams” struck again with his performance of “ON” garnering 21 million views landing V on the top spot. V who is widely recognized as the “Idol of Idols” also became the only artist to rank three fancams in the top ten this year.

3. V is the most-streamed Korean soloist on SoundCloud for the second year in a row.

With only five main original solo songs and a cover to his name, V has once again been crowned as the most-streamed Korean soloist on SoundCloud. In 2020, V amassed 458.8 million streams, contributing over 31% to the total stream of the groups’ discography on the platform. In addition, V also holds the record as the only Korean artist to score three #1 hits on the Global chart and also ranks two songs in the 100 million club and on the list of “fifty most-streamed tracks” on the platform.

4. V is the most liked Korean male idol on Instagram and Twitter.

As V is widely known as a star who continuously sets records with every appearance on social media, it might not come as a surprise to any that he holds the record for the most-liked post by a Korean male idol on both Twitter and Instagram in the year 2020.

As per multiple media outlets, with 3.2 million likes, V’s mirror selfie simply captioned, “Hi ARMY”, was crowned as the most-liked tweet by a K-pop artist in the past year. Additionally, his promotional picture for “Dynamite” garnered six million likes on Instagram setting a brand new record in K-pop history. Two of V’s promotional pictures for “BE” also achieved five million likes, proving his unrivalled popularity on social media platforms.

5. V is the most-searched Korean male idol on Google in South Korea

V who is dubbed as the “King of Social Media'' and also as the “Representative of K-pop” proved his titles correct by becoming the most-searched male idol on Google in South Korea. With 6.1 million hits, V also became the most-viewed Korean male idol on Wikipedia, even surpassing BTS who received 5.2 million in the past year. Given the various records the star has set in 2020, it is unsurprising that he ignited curiosity among the masses.

2020 has undoubtedly been one of the most successful years in V’s career both individually and as a part of BTS. With rumours of his first-ever mixtape set to release this year, it is only expected that the “Worldwide It-Boy” will take 2021 by storm as well.
