TVXQ suffered a lot when they entered Japanese market since K-Pop wasn't a familiar thing to Japanese people. Their first Japanese singles and albums sold just a few thousands. I believe they would have sold 2x more if the group didn't split but their sales are still amazing despite 13 years and no hi touch/handshake events

No, BoA didn't. Most of people think that BoA paved the way but no. BoA debuted in 2002 in Japan as a Japanese singer. People didn't even know she was Korean. There was already solo female singer trend in Japan so she got popular fast and her albums sold a million but when the trend went down, so did BoA. TVXQ debuted in Japan in 2006 as a Kpop group and they failed. In 2007, they started to get popular. After their success, the next year Bigbang entered Japanese market , the next year KARA, the next year SNSD and 2PM, the next year SHinee, SJ...... Japanese media always call TVXQ the Korean artist who started Hallyu wave in Japan

TVXQ5 aka Tohoshinki aren't considered Kpop in Japan! They started from the bottom as a J-Pop group and paved the way for other K-pop idols in Japan!

Twice has been active the least amount of years and has already made it up to number 6! Also 2PM's achievements are still so slept on. I need them to make some comebacks and bring back grown and sexy Korean men again. haha

Wow, I didn’t expect to see BTS and Twice up there with these older groups since they’ve had less time in Japan. very cool.

1- I am amazed that TVXQ are still number one after all these years!! The gap is sooo big I think it will remain unbeatable for a few more years...

2- BTS is up there with the legends! They were only around for a short time compared to the others, yet they are up there!! Wow

Japan used to be a great outlet for kpop groups to earn money. Then it stopped for many years, but in the last 2 years it's become big again. Time for kpop groups to exploit it before they stop their interest in kpop again soon.

They fixed it. Before it showed SHINee as having 2,163,766. That why I made the comment. They changed it to 2,063,766.

EXO is not a flop. Did you not here that anti-fans have been manipulating the voting inside the awards corporation they work for to reduce EXO votes . These corporations are now apologizing to EXO for this unfortunate accident. TVXQ paved the way by demanding rights to their band name and royalties.

Almost all Kpop groups promote in Japan. EXO is one of those whose target market is not Japan. Being in top 10 is already unexpected

Dani8493 Friday, December 14, 2018 0
Friday, December 14, 2018

Not really. They may be 10th on the list, but out of everyone on this list EXO is the least active in Japan. They only released two single albums (Love Me Right ~romantic universe~ & Coming Over) and one full length album (Countdown). So with only three releases in Japan (not counting EXO-CBX's Girls and Magic) they've been able to be one of the top 10 best selling K-Pop acts beating out other groups that again are far more active than they are. Wouldn't call that a flop. If they were more active in Japan then they would probably be higher on the list.

Tvxq can sell more durimg those days bc they were only abt 10 groups existed at that time. Almost zero competition.

While bts need to compete with like 1000 groups but still won. Now who are the true legends? Lmao
