tvN's upcoming fantasy, Saturday-Sunday drama 'Hwayugi' has released a highlight teaser clip, just one week ahead of its premiere!
The highlight teaser recaps the life of the monk or Xuanzang (played by Oh Yeon Seo) in the modern, Korean drama adaptation of the 'Journey To The West' story. In this drama's case, the monk is just a normal human girl with the power to see dead spirits. When she finds out that she has her fearsome powers during her early childhood, she makes a contract with both the monkey king (played by Lee Seung Gi) and the bull demon king (played by Cha Seung Won).
The contract she makes with the monkey king Son Oh Gong says that Son Oh Gong must come and protect her from evil whenever she calls his name; however, Son Oh Gong devilishly makes her forget his name, then leaves her to fend for her own life until she grows into an adult. Once Son Oh Gong runs into Xuanzang again, he ends up falling in love with her.
The specifics of Xuanzang's contract with the bull demon king, or what his relationship with top star Zhu Bajie (played by F.T. Island's Hongki) is, has yet to be revealed in the brief highlight teaser. Some of the drama's other unique characters, including zombie girl Lee Sae Young, Lee Elle, Bora, and more, also make quick but memorable appearances in the teaser, raising anticipation for 'Hwayugi's premiere.
