G-Dragon says 'what's the problem?' to the decision not to consider his USB as an album

G-Dragon criticized the music industry on not taking his USB as an 'album'.

He posted on Instagram, "What's the problem? Is it really it if someone who I don't even know decides that an artist's product is not an album or not? Of course there are ups and downs of such a decision through basic reasoning, but [music storage] has changed from tapes to CDs to downloaded files... Even now, everything is changing on the outside. However, isn't the important thing the melody that won't change even after time has passed, that will stay in the ears and mouths of people, and stay as memory in their heads, as well as lyrics that comfort people and let them have fun or be sad together?"

Many netizens are heavily on G-Dragon's side, reasoning CDs are now old-fashioned and that no one actually listens to CDs anymore. People argue that those in the older generations should have make decisions that almost exclusively affect the younger generation (album sales for G-Dragon).

What do you think of the issue?

I am pretty sure that those people do not decide these things only on whims or just discussions. A s an auditor, I know that certain conditions need to be fulfilled for it to be considered physical sales. For certain that the buyers do not have immediate rights and access to the songs from the usb as they only given links to download and have to pay more. Thus cannot establish that there are transfers of ownership or rights. Should be better to call this usb thing as a rip off.

Nothings wrong with it in a USB format. In fact it is really cool especially since it is more convenient to use. But I don't get why they cannot just put the songs onto the USB and instead only have the links to download the songs.... People can just purchase the songs from iTunes anyways...

WOW GD IS REALLY BEING HIM <3

gd's my ultimate bias and i love him to death but i kinda understand why some charts wouldn't recognize his usb links as a physical album. digital album? sure. if the songs would actually be on the usb? sure. but there are only hyperlinks pointing at something you still need to download from the web. it's not different from itunes, only in that it's more expensive. it's like you were selling a pricey cd case with a piece of paper with links written on it. people shouldn't pay so much for a container to end up at the same place, only for much more money. i get his idea and words about what should count as an 'album', but as long as charts have digital and physical categories i'm not surprised that there are divided opinions on the physical aspect of this album.

I understand he does not want people to upload the files onto the internet. However, it's kind of weird to spend some extra money to buy the usb album when it doesn't have the songs in it...especially since it cost a lot more than if you were to buy the CD album or download it off itunes.

GD, honey, if I have to download it from some links I'd rather buy ur album in iTunes where is way cheaper as well

itsjason Thursday, June 15, 2017

GD, darling, it's an empty USB with hyperlinks in it. Ayumi Hamasaki, Got7 and other artists who have done USB albums had the songs ON the USB. Why waste the money producing USBs if you're not putting anything on them?

hexrealm itsjason Thursday, June 15, 2017

He is not wasting the money, the cost is pass to the fans. In fact, he might be making money off the USB too.

itsjason hexrealm Friday, June 16, 2017

Well yeah, that's how production works, but this is literally a waste of money for the fans.

I have an off topic question. Has anyone read or seen anywhere GD even mentioning Top and his recovery at any of his press or concert shows?

JORGEee dlc311 Thursday, June 15, 2017

This is ot going to happen. Nor TOP, Nor Taeyang, nor Seungri or Daesung, taled about GD controversy during that time. And they including GD never talked about Daesung inciddent either during that time. And is for the best, ONLY ifficial staements from the company and his family should be allowed. However GD did apologized for TOP on their japanese fan meeting.

When it comes to scandals they don't put anything on SNS. It is always discussed between each other and it is almost like a rule to them to not say anything in public unless the other person is okay with it. So far only Seungri for his scandal has been made fun of but that is only because Seungri himself brought that topic out first. Other than that they have NEVER said anything via SNS. The thing is that IT IS NOTICEABLE. BB as a whole goes into a hiatus except this time. They avoid any type of shows, interviews, schedules. They gain weight or lose incredible amounts of weight, they are accompanied by more managers and staff than usual. Their faces are mostly covered because they swell from crying. I've been a fan for 9 years and I have seen this over and over again. I think the hardest time they have had it was during Daesung's scandal in where they had to perform as 4 and it was hard for them to the point where there were times that they almost lost it on stage.
