Super Junior's Leeteuk's shocking reason for why he worked so hard is making fans and netizens feel sympathy for the singer.

On November 24, Leeteuk spoke at an event called, "There's No Hope without Despair," where Leeteuk shared what had happened to his family and his financial situation.

Leeteuk recalled of a time back in January of 2014, when his father and grandparents passed away, saying, "While I was in the mandatory military service, I was struggling with depression, and I heard the news of the family death news; it was a very difficult period."

He also revealed the content of a note written by his father, who committed suicide after killing Leeteuk's grandparents. The note contained a line, "Do you think you succeeded alone?" -- a line that seemed to suggest that the father had resentment towards the singer.

Leeteuk's shocking revelation did not end there. His father had left a debt of about 5 Billion KR₩ (~$4.25 million USD). In order to pay off his late father's debt, Leeteuk sold his car, increased his workload and only slept about 4 hours in 3 days to fit all the schedules into each day, even though he could have been freed from the responsibility of paying off the money if he had given up the legal inheritance responsibility. Leeteuk said that he is still continuing to pay towards the debt, without resenting his father, and to do what is ethically right.

After the content of Leeteuk's story became known online, even his fans said, "We didn't know he was struggling this much." One netizen commented, "No wonder he was on so many shows and working so hard..." Another wrote, "I am not even his fan, but I want him to succeed. He doesn't have to pay it back, but he is being responsible."

He spoke about only this hard period (2014), but all ELF know that Leeteuk works hard from his debut (training days included) !All SUJU's members have said and recognized these facts for a long time. He's reputed in the Entertainment World as a hard worker (Shin Dong Yeop, Kang Ho Dong... said it !).I love this man, he's wonderful, brave and deserve respect ! It's not for nothing he's the best leader ever !Love You Angel ;)

I truly don't know how he does it, oppa is such a great person. He should be admired and respected by many younger idols. I heard Heechul saying that some idols are stuck up, it pisses me off when their is no respect like that. Same goes for young fandoms.

Bro i sleep 4 hours every night, if I'm lucky. Clearly, he hasn't been to a legit uni, or even any college.

LOL Bro he did that during debut years, so imagine him doing that for a years, especially as a trainee too. I respect him for living and working hard- he doesn't have it easy.

To write so much hate about your own child in your will... his father's worse than Jang Yoon Jung's mother. Leeteuk's such a strong person for even finishing his army service in that situation. No wonder he's been working so hard ever since...

teukie.... I can't even begin to imagine how difficult this must have been, especially since he's been keeping it in this whole time. but even now he's using his experiences to motivate others dealing with similar situations; he really is such a kind person, and I hope he will prosper and live a better life from now on.

Some people around me still call Korean idols degrading name like f*g or si**y ...what i see the most gentleman and manly man...they smiling, performing, singing, dancing, do the show like nothing happen...and all they think is a fan that wait their appearance or performance. If thats not a true dedicated strong man, then i have no idea what it is
