SM Entertainment is stepping up to protect their artists.

SEE ALSO: 'M! Countdown' will go on a 4-week hiatus after this week to prepare for 'MAMA 2017'

On October 7, SME officially announced, "Recently, serious incidents hindering the privacy of our artists' have occurred frequently. The spread of malicious, false rumors, invasion of privacy, and more going on and offline have seriously damaged both the physical and mental healths of not only our artists but also their families and friends. We have decided that these incidents can no longer be tolerated, and to protect our label artists, we will take strong action against those who violate privacy and/or engage in illegal action. Once again, we appreciate all those who love our label artists. Please give your support and encouragement."

Many fans also wish that a severe penalty put an end to actions which harm SM artists with malicious comments and rumors.

DZico Friday, October 7, 2016

is this about the rumor of DO leaving ?

bangeryun94 DZico Friday, October 7, 2016

CeCe_X_Yehet Friday, October 7, 2016

Probably since it was recent and also the article about Chen and his ex girlfriend

bangeryun94 DZico Friday, October 7, 2016

No, it was not about the rumour of DO leaving. There were disparaging remarks about Lay, Chen, Sehun, Chanyeol

Ryen DZico Saturday, October 8, 2016

Not just DO. There have been tons of malicious rumors and remarks against SM artists. Leeteuk, Victoria, Taeyeon, at one point Donghae's IG account was hacked... guess there comes a point when enough is enough.

Deoskhyaung Friday, October 7, 2016

Finally. I was waiting for this to happen soon😭. Thank you i love sm💖💖

bangeryun94 trashypotato Friday, October 7, 2016

No, most definitely NOT that.

yonyulsic bangeryun94 Saturday, October 8, 2016

riceboii yonyulsic Sunday, June 25, 2017

check the new article about this girl. now whos dumb?

Ryen Friday, October 7, 2016

The issue isn't really about whether the agency takes a stand on behalf of their artists. The issue is whether or not they can deliver what they've promised. Laws against cyber-crimes aren't that well-established, so unless they have sufficient evidence to build a case or press charges, this is basically just SM being all bark and no bite.

unscrewedhorses Ryen Friday, October 7, 2016

Maybe they'll crack down more on sasaeng fans though? I sure as well hope so.

bangeryun94 Ryen Friday, October 7, 2016

Laws against cyber bullying, defamation and malicious rumours are quite sophisticated in Korea. And if SME has announced they're taking action that means the investigation is almost over. In Korea you're required to enter specific personal information in order to access the internet thus making it easier to track if you threaten or defame someone.

Ryen bangeryun94 Saturday, October 8, 2016

I see. That explains it, but what type of personal information exactly? Because if it's general stuff like name, address and such then those can be made up, can't they?

bangeryun94 Ryen Saturday, October 8, 2016

The Korean equivalent of a social security number.

Ryen bangeryun94 Sunday, October 9, 2016

All right, but that sounds risky, given someone could just enter another person's SS and access the web as that person?

bangeryun94 Ryen Sunday, October 9, 2016

It sounds dangerous to you probably because of your privacy laws in your country. Korea prefers to monitor the internet so that bullying, threatening, and spread malicious rumours can't and won't be tolerated. It's a crime here. Yes, it can be discerning to westerners who rely heavily on the 1st Amendment to say anything they want.

Ryen bangeryun94 Monday, October 10, 2016

Well, no laws are perfect. Your country may have harsher laws against cyber-crimes (which is good), but that also means the citizens there will have to give up some of their freedom and rights, which as you said, may not sit well for some people. On the other hand, although things are freer here in the States because of the 1st amendment, it also makes enforcing laws to fight cyber-crime very difficult. In the end, it's really a matter of give and take, and what you're willing to give up for the sake of safety, I guess.

bangeryun94 Ryen Monday, October 10, 2016

100% agree with you. As far as I'm aware the cyber units here in Korea have maintained integrity of netizens privacy. This law is for everyone, not just celebrities and businesses. I can say there have been no abuses of the law as far as I know. And truthfully, we have some very messed up tweens and teens. Parents who work all the time and ignore them or parents who push and bully them for a higher class ranking. They have no interaction with educators either. They know Pythagorean Theorem but don't know how to be polite. It's a mess.

JayJay1 Friday, October 7, 2016

LMFAO! What artists we are talking about?  SM produces male and females prost*tutes, as well as low level criminals hidden behind good acting on 1st place !!!!! None of these ruined by the thirst for glory and fame creatures cares about some rumors in the Internet. The worst P.R for rating ever or SM must be afraid of something to make such statements, because no rumors can occur without a reason.

Jessicahbae JayJay1 Friday, October 7, 2016

low level criminals ? are you crazy or smth

trashypotato JayJay1 Friday, October 7, 2016

and you know this cause?

JayJay1 trashypotato Friday, October 7, 2016

Because it's called "showbusiness" - which means that they put up a show to earn money for it from you/us. Behind the curtain is very different, nasty and low. Have you ever asked yourselves why the majority of fans are teens? - they are the easiest to manipulate and more likely to believe in set up stuff, still growing up, filled with dreams & having lots of free time to fantasize, and defend some utopia. Have you watched documentaries about celebs - how they succeed and why most of them were knocked up by their managers, bosses, some wealthy CEOs & end up with them or divorce, etc? - For status, money, opportunities & connections which is kinda public secret and a "legal prost*tution". This applies for 95% in this branch. Plus people who have status + connections are more likely to get into sh*ts (drugs, s*xual abuse, rapes, alcohol, etc) exactly because they rely on what they are & who is behind them and know they can get away with it effortlessly. The "wrapper" they sell to us is just marketing, pure business which relies on our gullibility & ignorance & we are needed to feed, develop & defend it. So, when a rumor occurs it indicates that someone hasn't done their job properly & an info has leaked & with the time it gets twisted, revealed or covered with another spicy news. Have a nice day, \ /

Jessicahbae JayJay1 Friday, October 7, 2016

k-pop is different bitch

JayJay1 Jessicahbae Friday, October 7, 2016

with what? :) Tell me! oh, when someone lose control he/she insults, great approach, u almost convinced me that you're "right" with that little line of yours. Tsk tsk

gawddae JayJay1 Friday, October 7, 2016

guess you're up for the charges

Jessicahbae JayJay1 Friday, October 7, 2016

stupid hater

unscrewedhorses JayJay1 Friday, October 7, 2016

"...Because no rumors can occur without a reason." Oh yes. Because people never, you know, just make things up.

kuppycake1 JayJay1 Friday, October 7, 2016

I wouldnt say you are wrong but you shouldnt generalize all people in show business. We can't say for sure they don't do those things but you also can't say for sure they do. Either way i love the for their talent and not their personal (behind the scenes) business.

kuppycake1 Friday, October 7, 2016

TerriLyX3 JayJay1 Friday, October 7, 2016

You're generalizing way too much. And why are you only hating on SM? Celebs from other companies can do this to. I'm not saying that they are prostitutes or that most artists do this, but im asking why are you only calling SM artists prostitutes? How do you know that 95% of the show business involves prostitution? If you hate the kpop show business and all of these low level criminals, what the fuck are you doing on this article?? You know what, what are you even doing on fucking

JayJay1 TerriLyX3 Monday, October 10, 2016

I'm not generalizing, but this exact company is on the top with scandals recently & I haven't heard about other groups with so many members who have left from a single group which is a factor that there're big issues + sm always justify by announcing and warnings. Weak. In hollywood is pretty similar with the artists - all go through such ways to succeed or pouring parents' money if wealthy.

gawddae JayJay1 Saturday, November 5, 2016

"This applies for 95% in this branch." and "I'm not generalizing" .......well

gawddae JayJay1 Saturday, November 5, 2016

and where exactly is the article or proof of sm prostitution as you mentioned?
