From H.O.T's debut in 1996 to now, Kangta has always been a part of SM Entertainment. During an interview with Ilgan Sports, he opened up about his still ongoing relationship with the label.

To the question asking how he managed to stay in the company for 20 years (counting from his trainee days), Kangta answered, "There's something that I told my parents when I was underage. I told them to never directly contact the label. Whenever it was time for contract renewal, my father wanted to act for me, but I strongly opposed. I told them that I'll take care of it. Of course, my parents were concerned since it deals with finances, but I hated that. You know there are a lot of celebrities who get scarred because of their parents. I also hated that, and thankfully, my parents understood."

He continued, "It's blocking my parents from communicating with the company in regards to the business aspects. It doesn't matter on other things. They contact the company directly without going through me when they want my hoobaes' concert tickets." Kangta then shared a story, saying, "One time, my noona asked me for EXO tickets, but I also can't do anything about those. I just told her not to ask me for them, but I'll look into it anyway."

Next, Kangta revealed that several label-hoobaes turn to him for advice. He said, "Siwon comes to be often as well as TVXQ. Nowadays, I talk a lot with Heechul. To be honest, what can the friends in NCT have to say to me? Advice counseling can work when the age range matches to an extent."

I think SME should have their own episode of talkshow like how YG did in strong heart back then. it must be interesting

A lot of korean parents also want to control their kids' money because they are greedy so for the idols having that kind of parents i hope they are doing the same thing than Kangta.

LordLiar18 Friday, September 23, 2016

SME is his second home and treats him kinda well i guess... As for the family thing, i don't really know.. If he was underage, maybe his parents should have manage financial matters for him.

Parents are too paranoid and overprotected sometimes, I think that's why Kangta asked them to not contact the label. I think it's fine if you're adult and wise enough to make your own decission, and knowing every good and bad you'll get.

so basically he didnt want his parents to help him out coz he didnt trust them?

senacakes hiroonakamura Saturday, September 24, 2016

I don't think it's because he doesn't trust them, it's more like he doesn't want them to influence or tell him to stop being an idol. The idol life consists of a lot of hard work with little to no rest and it makes a lot of parents worried. Jessica (ex-SNSD member) even stated that if she ever had a child who wanted to be an idol, she would strongly oppose it. I guess he really wanted to be an idol and wished that his parents will try their best to support him and that can only be done if they dont know the details to his curriculum and scheduale with SM.

Am i the only one who thinks what his family did by calling the company for concert tickets a bit too much? Like they are not even related to the company directly. Want concert tickets? Get it yourself unless the idols themselves invite you. It makes me feel like they're using Kangta for selfish reasons like this :/

Winston Slpn3ssn1ghts Friday, September 23, 2016

it happens to a lot of celebrity families not just Kangta. as he say he rejects it but out of good will he trys if he can. he says his family contacts the company but he never say how often are their requests rejected or successful.

So much senior power but can't manage and convince SME to allow them to get back together as HOT that's the down side working with these agency the end it's all about MONEY and not for 1st gen fans.

iisstf28 Hyungshi Friday, September 23, 2016

Or maybe he is the one against the idea 🤔🤔 Idk but in Radio Star when Sechskies was there, they said that HOT have tried to do a concert together but one member doesn't want to do it.

Hyungshi iisstf28 Friday, September 23, 2016

Radio Star hinted many times it's SME... Kangta is one of the 1st member willing to do it

Acapella Friday, September 23, 2016

I think thats a dangerous thought. There are so many minors in kpop and their parents need to be at the table to discuss these things. There is just so much sly shit that goes on. Of course once they're older and more mature its fine to an extent, but not to minors imo

Winston Acapella Friday, September 23, 2016

i think its a case by case bias, since Kangta is already an adult when he was renewing his contract during HOT times.

I hope he releases his new album soon. I really missed his singing.

BigBlueagain Friday, September 23, 2016

For those interested, there are two Creative Directors at SME. I've stated that BoA is one. This is the other one. Yes, he's THAT good.

alicehalf BigBlueagain Friday, September 23, 2016

Min Hee Jin is the official Creative Directors of all SNSD(Hoot, I got a boy etc), SHINee, f(x) (4 walls, Pink tape...), Red Velvet etc concepts Mostly she takes herself the photoshoot for their album too. Krystal is really close to her. BoA and Kangta are promoted to Creative Directors but Min Hee Jin is the official one, she's really talented

BigBlueagain alicehalf Friday, September 23, 2016

She's the visual director and it's not an executive position. BoA and Kangta are the Creative Directors and that IS an executive position. And yes, she is very good at what she does.
