Elderly man allegedly attacked for making a small request on the subway

Buzz

A case of senseless violence occurred between two men, a 39-year-old Park and a 70-year-old Cho, this past weekend on Busan's subway system.

According to the Busanjin Police Station and a Yangjeong Station worker, around 3:30 p.m. this past July 7, Park allegedly attacked Cho on the subway. Following investigations, police discovered that Park was on the subway car headed towards Nopo-dong when Jo got on the same car at Seomyeon Station. Cho sat next to Park and the elderly man said to him, "sit with your legs closed." Park allegedly refused Cho's request with, "I don't want to. I won't sit with my legs closed."

Further, it was reported that Cho threatened to strike Park with his fists, and Park reacted by attacking Cho's face. The other passengers who were riding in the same car as Park and Cho reported the fight, and a subway station worker along with police arrived on the scene soon thereafter to break up the altercation.

The detective in charge of the case stated, "Park said that it was Cho who instigated and threatened him first with his fists. But the first one to attack was Park. We can only get to the bottom of what really happened once we investigate the case fully."

Cho, who was reportedly bleeding profusely from the face after Park attacked, was transferred to the hospital. Police plan to continue their investigations once Cho is discharged.
