Amid the current controversy around idols and their lack of historical knowledge, one idol is gaining attention for the exact opposite reason.

That idol's none other than SHINee's Minho! While other idols are coming to light about their lack of knowledge on crucial historical figures and events, Minho's previous answers on variety show is gaining much praise.

For example, when Minho was on an 'Infinity Challenge' special, one of the questions were, "Why did Queen Seokduk build Cheomseongdae?". He answered that it was for agricultural purposes, and since it was built to aid farming by predicting droughts and floods, he was correct.

In the same episode, Minho was asked what he thought of when he was told Yun Bong Gil's name. He also answered, "The lunchbox bomb", which is what the independent activist is the most famous for. He even added, "He killed the Japanese generals with his water bottle bomb. The lunchbox bomb that he had prepared for his suicide did not go off."

Good job, Minho!

I would also like to point out that 3 of SHINee's members have received a master's degree (onew, jonghyun, key), Minho is currently studying to get his masters, and taemin is studying for his bachelors. Although I don't think getting a degree equates being a good person, it's still really nice to see artists who are so successful in the industry, yet still make time to appreciate the gift of education. Cheers to these hard working boys!!

Correction, none of them have received a masters degree yet! Onew, jonghyun, and key (along with the previously mentioned Minho) are currently pursuing a masters.

I never thought that an idol's job description should include knowledge in history

I think Korea give importance to its own culture and history, that's it. Not only idols but everyone must know how they got rid of Japanese occupation etc.

joseph_dc federick Sunday, May 15, 2016

It doesn't but it helps

bangeryun94 federick Monday, May 16, 2016

Just an observation but older Koreans tend to get a bit spikey when Koreans my age don't know the men and women who sacrificed themselves during the Japanese occupation. They seem to feel it's more important than our great Kings and Queens

Because it's "Korean", a country full of judgemental people ?

bangeryun94 Fadhila1997IS Wednesday, May 18, 2016

We got that attitude from foreigners.

Ah it's not "judgemental" i think, it's more "conservative". And foreigners are more liberal.

bangeryun94 Fadhila1997IS Wednesday, May 18, 2016

So you're telling me, a Korean, what it is? Okey dokey!

1Minoz Sunday, May 15, 2016

Well, Minho is educated. I believe he attended college, he said he went study abroad with EXO's Suho in China.

bangeryun94 1Minoz Monday, May 16, 2016

Yes, he is. And he was getting an education when Shinee going strong. I think that's the point that the writer is atrempting to make.
