Krystal as Se Na, aspiring singer/songwriter

L as Shi Woo (member of the boy band Infinite Power)

Hoya as Rae Heon (of Infinite Power)

Recap

The scene opens with Hyun Wookin a car accident that results in the death of his love,So Eun. She dies in his arms and he's wracked with guilt, swearing never to date again. He hides himself away for three years. Se Na is his dead fiancee's sister; after escaping from some thugs, she calls her sister, complaining that she's alone. Hyun Wook takes the call and, once he hears her pleas, makes it his goal to find and help her. He knows little, other than she is an indie artist and that she's So Eun's younger sister. He goes to the cell company first, who tells him the phone he used is not in service and there's no way he could have received a call. Se Na assumes her friend's name and begins working at a hotel. Once she starts there, our tale begins in earnest.

Preparing to record her song.

Hyun Wook stays there, taking his dog Dal Bong with him. Since the dog develops a rapport with Se Na, he goes to the hotel manager and specifically requests Se Na's services as dog sitter. Neither of them know who the other one is since Se Na is working under an assumed name. She decides that she needs a break from it, so she hands the dog to a fellow employee so that, just maybe, she can get close enough to the boy band playing there, Infinite Power, and pass her demo CD to them. Of course, one of them, Shi Woo, already drunk and angry, decides to make fun of her and plays the CD for the crowd assembled there. After that humiliation, it goes from bad to worse as she is fired from her job. Hyun Wook, after finding outSe Na's true identity from a private detective he hired, finds her waiting at the bus stop...

My take

Se Na appears to have the worst luck. Pursued by thugs sent by a loan shark, she ends up jobless and homeless. When she surfaces as a hotel hostess, she ends up almost killing the dog when a sausage she feeds him ends up lodged in his esophagus. She gets worked to the bone when Hyun Wook learns his dog has a tumor and requires special care. She is mortified when a drunken, angry member of a boy band plays her song in front of a crowd, all of whom laugh at her. Her co-worker loses the dog. She gets fired after the incident at the club. To top it all off, her sister's dead. I'm hoping her luck improves. While some of it was amusing, I can well imagine it wearing pretty thin.

And we have boy band members behaving badly. Why is it that flower boy bands are portrayed as jerks? True, Shi Woo was drunk and jealous that the girl he was sweet on was making time with his bandmate, but that would be a cue to go home, not tear someone else down. I have a feeling that those boys are going to end up as main characters;Shi Woo is certainly prominent here and he works at the same company of whichHyun Wook is CEO. He'll pop up again, but I'm not sure if I want him to.

Drinking and jealousy don't mix

Of course, this could add to the already complicated love rectangle. Shi Woo and Hyun Wook could vie for Se Na's attention. Hae Yoon also has some history with Hyun Wook. This could be a lot of fun and confusing all at once, especially if bandmate Rae Heon wants in on it and starts wooing Se Na.

The dog, Dal Bong, is almost a main character unto himself. He is certainly the focus of most of the episode and is absolutely charming. He's friendly, and Se Na is certainly able to talk to him. He objects loudly when she says things like "Your owner is a dog psycho." Personally, while it's great to see Krystal in another drama, I want to see more of the dog.

Man's best friend

I enjoyed watching this a lot. They certainly were quick to set up the conflicts, and this episode was just packed. I wasn't really waiting for anything to happen, I was just trying to figure out who was who half the time, asking myself, "Is this person important?" I'm guessing the formula is this: if they appear on screen for more than 2 minutes, they have to be main characters. I think there was a lot of setup in this episode. Given the high profile of the drama, everyone knows what it is basically about, so the writers have to think of more things to give further dimension to the show, like the dog. We got to hear Krystal sing, too, which is always a plus.

Stay tuned, loyal readers. There's something in here for everyone! What do you guys think?
