TRIANGLE EPISODE 15

Recap:
Dong Soo is stabbed at the behest of Chairman Go, and the killer is likewise dispatched so he cannot talk. The former detective is in a coma, and it is unknown if he will pull through. Jung Hee decides to accept a job offer in Seoul whileYang Ha's adoptive father gets news that Yang Ha is interested in Jung Heeand decides to try and set him up with other girls more befitting his station (enter T-ara's Jiyeon!). When Young Dal learns that the knifeman was in Go's employ, he tries to kill him, but is stopped by Dong Soo's former squad. They arrest Goand further beat him to a pulp, but he refuses to talk. Boss Min convinces Man Bong to take over Go's criminal empire. Both Yang Ha and Young Daltalk to Jung Hee separatelyabout their youth. Yang Ha's father meets with one of Go's minions, trying to blackmail him into helping, and the Daejung chairman pushes back, saying that Go will be in deeper trouble if he dares to involve him. And as Dong Soo is unavailable, the elderly investor secures Young Dal a job at the casino much to Yang Ha's shock. A tense moment arises as the two engage in a battle of stares...

My take:
Chairman Go gets beaten up a lot. If I had that many bad physical encounters, I'd be tempted to keep guards around in my office 24/7. As enjoyable as it is to see him beaten, it just seems excessive. To be taken unawares like that in this age of webcams and motion sensors and electric eyes seems somewhat of a stretch. At least he got rid of that ridiculous stripe in his hair. :)

Go, pummeled by Young Dal. If I could show scenes of him being pounded to hamburger in every screenshot I would.

And speaking of Go, it sounds like Boss Min and Chairman Go don't like each other much. When she speaks to him on the phone, she mentions that she can't do anything about his disrespecting her, but he'd better listen to her husband (who is in jail, but a powerful boss in his own right). And then, when Go is arrested, she goes behind his back and recruits Man Bong, trying to get him to take over Go's operation. It's fun to see the bosses feud as all they do is weaken themselves by fighting when they should be making alliances. It's somewhat reminiscent of 1930s Chicago, only with no tommy guns.

We get more insight into Yang Ha's psyche too. I've mentioned a few times that he seems different from the timid character we were introduced to initially, the one who can't get past his fear and takes anti-anxiety meds. Now, we finally get to the root of his fear this episode. He has a fear of being abandoned by his family, and his father makes it clear to him that if he refuses to be groomed as the successor of Daejung Group and act appropriately, then he will be cut loose. I can understand the root of much of his stress -- he is not his own man; he is adopted and he knows it, and his father uses that fact to hurt and control him. Under those circumstances, I'd be a bit off, too.

Shin Hye watches over Dong Sooin a coma from the stabbing

With Jung Hee, we have a great triangle that Yang Ha will not give up on no matter how much she rebuffs him.. I'm wondering if his father threatening to disown him will change anything. The writers have put the chaebol-falls-in-love-with-the-pure-angelic-poor-girl trope into this show and with the new wrinkles, I wonder how this will play out. She's moving to Seoul, away from Yang Ha, but also away from Young Dal. And as of this episode, she knows both of their pasts and appears to feel sympathy now for Yang Ha. I'm still rooting for Young Dal, but I know they need to at least make things interesting.

I love 'Triangle.' Now that 'Gab Dong'has ended, it's a great way to get my fill of suspense. I love the schemes that move through the different channels of power and I particularly enjoy the hatred awakened in Young Dal now that Go has nearly killed Dong Soo, whom he now knows is his brother. And the rivalry between Yang Ha and Young Dal is priceless, especially since they still do not know they are brothers, and Yang Ha has no idea that the reason he is an orphan is because of his adopted dad. Great stuff. Can't wait for the next one!
