K-Pop in Chile gets highlighted in MBC program

Korea continues to feel amazement at the global love for K-Pop, as fans in Chile were recently spotlighted through a MBC entertainment program. 'Friday Wide' recently aired a special episode in which Chilean fans displayed their passionate support for K-POP. To start, the program showed a large crowd filing into a small theater on a late Sunday afternoon. Inside, a projector played music videos of K-Pop's hottest stars. Although it wasn't anything close to a live concert, girls and guys alike screamed for joy as they sang along with the songs. The Chileans even knew the lyrics to songs by rookie artists like B1A4, who are still relatively new to the entertainment scene. The show eventually came to an end, but afterwards, the fans gathered in small rooms to practice the choreography to their favorite K-Pop songs. Fans as young as 13 were in attendance, dancing to 2NE1's "I Am The Best". "We're here to experience K-Pop with our friends. K-Pop has a charm that's different from American music. The dances are especially enjoyable," fans remarked. "We really like the music, rhythms, and dances of K-Pop. We also like that the Korean culture and Korean way of life can be felt through the music". Alexis, the event coordinator, remarked, "The event has met with such an explosive reaction from the fans, that I think we're going to start holding them twice a month from now on. Our goal is to participate in the K-Pop competition that's put on by the Korean Embassy." The Korean Embassy regularly puts on competitions in which teams well-emulate their favorite Korean stars, nailing their expressions, mannerisms and musial styles. K-Pop has spread all over the world through social networking sites such as YouTube and Twitter, and Chile was certainly touched by its influence. The Korean-Chileans living in the area shared their thoughts on the recent K-Pop craze. Mrs. Mun who runs a business in Chile remarked, "I can't turn on K-Pop music in my store. All the kids come in here and start dancing to the music, and it disrupts my business." "When we first came here years ago, as Koreans we had nothing to be proud of. But now our children are saying that they're so proud to be of Korean descent", she continued. "Chilean kids are always saying that it's their dream to live in Korea". The K-Pop craze is spreading awareness of Korean culture as well. Korean language classes are now being offered, and the demand for seats is so high that schools can't meet them. The number of classes have doubled, and many students are currently placed on waiting lists. Not only are Chileans wanting to learn the language, Korean snacks and drinks are also becoming highly popular. Check out the video below!
