Lee Kwang Ki Holds A Tearful Funeral Procession For His Departed Son

Posted by rhyelee-1 pt Wednesday, November 11, 2009

Two days ago, we reported the tragic death of actor Lee Kwang Ki's son, Lee Suk Kyu; today, a funeral procession was held for the departed seven-year-old and after the official procession, his remains were cremated and his family and their close acquaintances held another procession as they enshrined his ashes at a funeral home. Lee Suk Kyu was a victim of sepsis, a severe illness in which the victim's bloodstream becomes overwhelmed by bacteria. He was initially admitted to the hospital because he had shown some swine flu-like symptoms, but his death was very sudden and unexpected by all. At the beginning of the procession at the funeral home, Suk Kyu's older sister Yeon-ji held a framed photo of him and a tearful Lee Kwang Ki followed after her as he held the ashes of his departed son, crying out words that brought many other spectators to tears: "You're so cold now.... I'll hug you, and warm you right up.... I'll hug you warmly. Warmly... My Suk Kyu... I miss the warmth your body used to have. Why did you have to go like this.... I have so much that I wanted to do for you... I still have to send you to school... I still have to send you to the army... I still have to see you get married and live happily..." Fellow actor Kim Bo Sung was by his side to comfort him, and held a robot toy that Suk Kyu had enjoyed playing with. The crowd soon followed the procession inside and Suk Kyu's portrait was set on a table. After the portrait was placed on the table, Kim Bo Sung placed the toy on the table and Lee Kwang Ki set his son's ashes on the table. Lee embraced his son's portrait longingly, breaking out in tears once again: "You used to love it when I kissed you...My Suk Kyu... If only I had fed you Tamiflu sooner..." His family came to his side and they all embraced the portrait together, shedding tears as they said their final goodbyes to the young Suk Kyu. While doing so, Lee uttered out, "You gave us happiness for every year you were alive, and now you're going back as an angel. You're going back as an angel... I am at peace because I know that you were never my child from the start - you were God's child." Lee Suk Kyu Funeral Fighting back more sobs, Lee said, "On Sunday... You gave me a folded 10,000 won bill from your secret storage box and told me to buy sauna tickets... Yeon-ji and you and I used to wash each others' feet..." And as a final token of goodbye, the family left Suk Kyu his favorite toy and some snacks that he enjoyed eating. Watching the funeral procession and seeing Lee Kwang Ki's sorrow brought me to tears - and apparently, I wasn't the only one who broke out in tears since many netizens have left comments on his homepage saying, "I'm really sobbing over this... This is such a tragedy. Suk Kyu, I dearly pray that you're in a better place now," "I truly believe he went back as an angel," "My heart really hurts for you... Of course, you must be in much more pain than I am... I'll be praying for you," and "I read about your situation at work, and I broke out in tears... My condolences to you and your family," among many other encouraging things. You can watch the procession at the funeral home below.
