Block B's Zico spoke up about being a composer.

He recently tweeted, "I think being a singer-songwriter is no longer a title that deserves merit. Anyone can write songs, and with just a few hours of effort, anyone can work with midi. The important thing is the difference of how well you do it. But I'm not saying I'm good."

Of course, Zico is one of the best idol composers around, with an impressive number of hits under his name. Do you agree with what he said?

A superior translation: "It seems being a singer-songwriter is no longer a qualified modifier". He's just saying that being a composer doesn't set you apart in this day and age, it's the outcome of the song. He didn't say being a composer has no merit, Allkpop with the bait as usual.

He's just salty because a lot of idols composed songs better than him.   What a rat

Are you dumb, what does he have to be salty about when he can outsell everyone?

He could had said that midi can help people to compose songs easier, but what he said, and how he said it is absolutely wrong and it sounds pretentius and arrogant, as if he was trying to make others achievements small, like if they are nothing. I´m not saying that he is those things, but one shoud be careful before saying big things without thinking.

Honestly what he's saying can go towards any career like anyone can be a filmmaker, singer, songwriter, a novelist, composer, actor, artist or whatever. But there will always be a difference between someone being the real deal, having talent and someone just giving themselves the title.

He's kind of pointing out the obvious ... there was never merit in just calling yourself a songwriter. Any toddler with finger paints can call themselves an artist, that doesn't detract from Rembrandt. Talent makes itself apparent, so does a lack of it.

He must be frustrated being in an industry when so many people are claiming to be composers and songwriters. Back when it was just a handful of idols who could lay claim to it, it was fine. But now that so many are doing it with piss poor results, it's like...why would you want to boast that your a songwriter, composer and do so with pride? Kind of like how photographers must feel when they've gone through photography courses, take their time to line up a shot and meticulously plan out the lighting to call themselves photographers, meanwhile anyone with an iPhone and an instagram account is also calling themselves a photographer. We're not saying you aren't photographers, or songwriters, or composers...but if everyone is the same thing, what makes it so special? It becomes watered down, essentially.

His makeup artist needs to be fired because that lipstick he has on is super ugly.

for me every person who puts some hard work to create something has merit even if it's not that popular it's may be awsome for some poeple , personnaly am not a fan of zico and saying that being a composer and a songwriter has no merit is just mean. and fo those who say that you only have merit for composing a song if it becomes popular topping chart whith a song do not mean that it is a good one

He didn't say it has no merit, here's a better translation: "It seems being a singer-songwriter is no longer a qualified modifier. Anyone can write songs and if they invest hours in it, and also MIDI, anyone can do it in various ways. What is important is the difference between how good you can do it. But I’m not saying I’m good"
