I don't get why people are acting like this is special treatment??? He was assessed for what position he would work best in and this was it. He is going to be training for riot control, not picking up trash off of the sidewalk. The same goes for Junsu, who is working as a task force police man. They're not easy jobs, stop acting like they are.

I love how Koreans pretend to ascribe a lot of relevance to the military service, to the point to even ban people from enter the country, but nobody says anything about celebrities that basically avoid the service (with few exceptions). :))

Actually, that's not true. Many celebrities did use to get "special treatment" by serving on a special "celebrity unit" but it was so controversial that they finally got rid of it. Anyone can apply to do their service as a policeman among other things, but everyone who is assigned has to pass the right tests first (like everything else in Korea). People make a HUGE fuss if they think a celebrity is getting special treatment or avoiding doing their service. Even Kim Jong Kook had to post a picture of his x-rays recently because people thought he had made up his scoliosis to avoid serving.

I would say that the Kangnam police station IS a "celebrity unit". It's difficult to imagine that some well known celebrity is assigned there by chance, out of all the hundreds of police stations in Korea.

How is this avoiding service? This is available to every Korean male in the country, not just artists. The test is quite difficult to pass. Also I'd like to ask you how is this different from any other army in the world?

You've obviously never seen the Kangnam police quarters. It's one of the most run down in the city

Maybe, but with the tiny, negligible advantage that you're in Seoul downtown when you step out. Much better than Dokdo, the DMZ, a destroyer in the Yellow Sea or some police station lost in the woods, right? I'm sure that this kind of advantages are available to every Korean male in the country...

Even if it is really special is treatment, doesn't matter since he is one of those who has contributed so much to Korea being made popular worldwide. He earns and Korea earn even more. Should get a medal actually.

Please think about what you're saying for a moment... OF COURSE they are not going to place him at the DMZ or on "a destroyer", he has had 4 weeks of basic training, why the fuck would they put him there? He's obviously not qualified, he'd just get in the way. They are assigned based on merit as well. Someone with his skills is much more useful in the military band. Also, you can apply for the job AND station. Junsu for instance is a celebrity as well, but applied for a different area so they put him there.

They are. First, you have to be accepted into any other branch of the military other than the Army. That means someone sitting out on a destroyer in the Yellow Sea had to seek permission to join the Navy, pass all the rigorous testing to become a Korean sailor and then go through basic training which is NOTHING like basic training in the Army. A police department in rural areas may have 5 policemen at most so no "celebrities" are needed in the woods. Celebrities are stationed at Dokdo and DMZ, just ask Kim Hyun Joong. So what again is your point other than being in a crappy mood because you think celebrities get special treatment here? Did you get screwed over in the Korean Army? Know someone who did? Don't agree with how we conscript our citizens? I'm looking forward to the day if the country isn't united when women are conscripted as well.

In that case, just have the guts to exempt celebrities from the service, instead of this blatant joke.

Oh, I'm sure that celebrities are strongly needed in Seoul, instead. Not a big deal, if these fairy tales make you feel comfortable... :))

Yeah, what it tells is that you feel the need to mock Korea's conscription policies for males and you didn't like a Korean telling you to fuck off.

You really don't understand a single thing, do you? If anything, are those who allow such loose interpretation of the conscription policies that are mocking the majority of korean male citizens. By the way, your attempts to start a groundless racial flame to camouflage your meaningless arguments are childish and pathetic. Now deal with it and go play with your lightstick.

What racial flame sweetie? You want to get on here and act all god damn indignant because one of the most popular artists in MY country chose to be a policeman instead of what your tiny bite sized brain perceives to be a heroic man in uniform and gets your granny panties all bunched up because I am laughing my ass at you, don't blame it on race. You're a westerner weighing in on how MY country does things and if you don't like it, get your ass out of here.
