Chinese media outlets reported that EXID's 1st MV for the Chinese "Up & Down" contained controversial scenes, including ones of EXID wearing qipao-like attire while dancing in front of what appears to be the former imperial palace in Beijing, as well as them wearing "too revealing" attire while sitting on royal thrones. They also reported that some netizens took offense to the MV using what appears to be the former imperial palace like it were a MV set.

Banana Culture made sure to clarify that all of the architecture, furniture, and backgrounds in the MV were a part of a filming set and not actual monuments, buildings, or structures. The label continued, "We judged that scenes filmed at a set resembling the former imperial palace, in order to give off a more Chinese vibe, may cause issues, so we've deleted them. During the filming, Chinese staff members present were of the opinion that it would be acceptable, and even after we uploaded the 1st MV, it wasn't that we were flagged right away, but afterward we did judge that it could be problematic, and concluded that it would be best to edit the MV."

Half the song is still in Korean? This is playing up all the Chinese stereotypes with the clothes and backdrop. The rapper's nose is quite distracting. When did she get that done?

they could've done better cause this is so cringy

why was it necessary to make this mv if the song remains the same...this isn't going to increase the number of Chinese fans, I just don't get it. It looks like a tourism project.

Some PRChina citizens must have complained to BANANA CULTURE Agency. And rather than 'RISK IT' that the situation becomes like (TWICE Group) TZUYU and the TAIWAN FLAG, they just folded under pressure. Which, it is fairly EASY to EDIT the AOA MV as they did it, so THEY DID !!! ... It was the LOW RISK decision. And the COST to do it (MV Editing) was not that bad.

BANANA CULTURE Agency is somewhat 'running scared' of annoying the PRChina Government in any way with some S.KOREA Music Group controversy. Cannot say that I blame them on that. Better to 'douse the flames' *before* your 'house burns down.' ...

It's just a terrible video, it looks like they were hired to make a tourism promo.

I just thought dressing in traditionally inspired chinese attire seemed really...desperate? gimmicky?Just because you're making a chinese version of the song doesn't mean you have to dress like that. I don't know, it just seems like a silly mv concept that doesn't even  suit the song...

I'm still disappointed that LE's rap is in Korean

Yes... hard to imagine why they would treat an MV set like an MV set.
