Buckle up and hold on tight, GOT7 is back with their new album 'Flight Log: Turbulence.' It's been a while since 'Flight Log: Departure.' This is the second entry in the 'Flight Log' series and features 13 all-new tracks.

"skyway" taxis this disc out onto the runway and serves as an intro track, though technically not one. It's a good preview of what this album holds, from EDM to some silky bridges, with auto-tune and a club-banger sensibility.  There is some definite volume to this track, and its visceral feels prime you for the next track.

"Hard Carry" is the hard-hitting title track. It's aggressive and fierce, with nods to trap and EDM beats. This tune is just amazing, with tons of layered sounds. Repeated listens would be necessary to catalog everything going on here, samples of sounds both organic and synthetic. Say what you want about EDM -- it's obvious a good amount of work went into this banger. A sonic attack that slew me.

The somewhat playful "Boom x3" has Jackson written all over it, who co-wrote the track. The EDM is lighter but no less prominent with dance breaks and beat drops, not to mention hip-hop stylings. There's again a variety of sounds, and somehow this song stays on track -- considering the different tunes that bleep through this tune. Not a bad tune overall.

The sultry "Prove It" is written by none other than JB. He's obviously an R&B fan, and this tune winds its way through the running time like wisps of smoke. It's undeniably smooth, though a bit of a letdown from the hyperactive beats of the previous tunes. He's a gifted vocalist, and it's nice to hear him get a chance to shine.

Mark and Yugyeom's "No Jam" is a song played for laughs and showcases their iconic playful style with a beautifully realized reggae party tune. It's another track that can't resist reminding you of the EDM production, and so there are a couple gratuitous breakdowns, tossing immersion right out the window. The title means "No Fun." BamBam and Jackson also contributed lyrics to this one.

Main vocalist Youngjae brings us "Hey," another fun-loving snappy tune that shows off his sweet voice and style. It most matches straightforward pop, but it's got some nice surprises in the raps and the forceful chorus. It's nicely packaged and is bound to have you dancing.

Jinyoung gives us a good ride in the dubstep-laced "Mayday." Some references to the whole airplane theme is nice, and we have absolutely sick raps here. The chorus takes us to new heights, and it's hard not to get caught up in this one. I like how the raps are integrated into the chorus, giving this a fun, fierce feel.

This is pretty much how it sounds, wearing its techno influences on its sleeve, with cheerful, upbeat tunes and powerful club-bangers. It's a bit of a different style for them, but they take to it well. And I like how they were super active in making this disc. Mark plays the largest role as the co-writer of five songs: "No Jam," "My Home," "If," "Sick" and "Let Me." I liked this, and frankly, by embracing EDM (despite the excesses), I think it's their best yet.

MV REVIEW

The video is all kinds of wow. With all the concepts GOT7 done before, this one is the darkest.

The scene is one of devastation, half-destroyed cars are arrayed against one another like a pileup on the freeway, and there's a burning plane that they dance in front of. Scenes flash back and forth between the plane and an ambulance, hinting at a lethal crash, most likely.

Some of the imagery is confusing. Can't really figure out the trees for the life of me, but may have to do with a place of perfect peace?  I'm pretty sure the bird cage containing a baby bird is a shout-out to their fans. They end up all underwater, so the plane may have crashed and they drowned?

Ultimately, the rest of it makes up for the confusion. The dancing is perfect and fierce, the evocative scenes really transport you to a different place. It's not hard to see why it's exceeded 6 million views. Definitely thumbs up.
