'Weekly Idol' writer criticizes VIXX's Leo for his aloof attitude + apologizes and quits

VIXX, Leo
VIXX's Leo has been receiving mixed reactions for his seemingly cold and aloof attitude, which was publicly pointed out by a writer of MBC Every1's 'Weekly Idol'.

Writer Cha Yoon Ah had tweeted, "Has it been 2 years since I've last seen them when they debuted. To be honest, I wasn't all that happy [to see them]..Because I really had a hard time filming their debut reality [show]. Because of the kids and agency as well"; "This would make my 2nd time meeting VIXX since 'MyDOL'. The kids have not changed at all since their debut"; "As I write captions every week, at least one member in each group will say something fun and witty, I'm really not lying when I say there was no one this time. It's not easy for me to feel like this as I'm a fan of male idols...", and more along those lines.

She was basically pointing out that compared to 2 years before as well as now, VIXX was a group that was hard to work with, and it seemed that she was specifically referring to Leo, as the MCs of the show even spent a portion of the show asking him whether he was always this sullen or whether he was mad. Due to his aloof expression and short one word answers, the MCs had asked him a series of questions, "Are you mad? Is your condition okay? Oh is your normal expression just like this?" But Leo had just replied "yes" without even a smile, which led to the MCs trying their best to get a smile out from him by tickling him and such.

The writer's posts gradually started to catch the attention of VIXX's fans who fired back at her that the show was probably edited in a way that would portray Leo in a worse manner. However, she responded, "Don't comment on the editing. He was normally that kind of kid."

Fans stuck up for the VIXX member by stating that he is naturally shy and reserved, but he takes care of others behind the scenes and carries out his activities with diligence. However, others have since pointed out that since he is an idol member who lives off the public's love and attention, he should try to make fans and viewers feel more comfortable by getting out of his comfort zone and being more outgoing.

With fans' anger growing, the writer later apologized before closing her Twitter, writing, "I sincerely apologize for causing pain to a lot of fans through my harsh words on a public platform. I read all of the mentions sent to me in anger and pain due to my wrong actions. As I said, the previous words have been deleted and I will close this [Twitter] account. I will also resign from the [Weekly Idol] team due to my actions that caused public criticism today. I bow my head once again and apologize."
